Smosh Indiegogo campaign ???

I noticed the video in my feed, but I decided on not watching it. I know they made an App in the past and I think they just went and did it. I don't know why they all of a sudden need 250k for an app. Seems fishy if you ask me. I am against that much for an app in most any case though.

Do iPhone games make that much? I know he has a big network, but doesn't it seem like he might lose their money?

they arent losing any money because they arent funding it :/ plus it will be a paid game
I develop games myself (I'm working on an FPS called Commissioned To Kill), and paid games in general make less money than free ones. 1/25 or so people will download it. You can make 2/25 of the money per paid download via ads. This would be about 1 penny comfortably per download. That makes you double the profit as if it was paid. (excluding in app purchases which are usually more profitable than the game)

That said, I feel like they saw TobyGames do this, and they jumped on the bandwagon. I don't like to call Smosh out for copying, because tons of people make games, but Toby just raised like 400k on an IndieGogo for his new game. 250K is 10 times what you need to develop a game for the iPhone. Unless they buy advertising with it, I can't fathom where that money will go. Highest paid game developer of all time? I don't develop for other people, but I would never charge that much for an game. This game will likely hit #1 on the app store (it takes about 5-50k) daily downloads depending on the time and they can do this easily with their following. This will provide them with tons of new fans who find their channel through the app just by browsing the store. Overall, it will be good for Smosh. I feel that they are almost stealing for asking for so much money. They have a 7 figure income off of YouTube, tshirt sales, and their website. They should be funding this themselves.

Really? Has he made this a public announcement?

Why must you argue with everything? Do you really think with the views he brings in that he is on minimum wage? It isn't difficult to figure out that he's on several million.

The math is quite simple:

He gets approx 205 million views a month. Going by the assumption that usually around 50% of a person's views are monetised, that's 103 million monetised views a month. He's with (I think) TGS, and let's say he earns $3 (this will go up and down depending on time of year/advertisers, of course) per every 1,000 views.

That's approximately $309,000 per month. Per year that works out at around $3.7 million. Again this will go up and down depending on views, CPM and any other paid product placement he takes part in.

... I'm speechless. That's a lot of money. :(

It is ridiculous. That's the sole reason many people don't like him; they think he's a money ***** because he earns a lot. But to be fair... he's not. He's just very fortunate and I've never seen him be ungrateful for that!

I don't like this Kickerstarter type campaigns. More often than not it's very rich people asking their doting fans to spare their very hard earned cash so they don't have to dip into their masses of interest that are piling up. Like the Veronica Mars one. The cast alone could've funded that without a public penny being needed.

I'm sorry. Asking questions is now arguing. You forget Frankie that what you just said is all assumptions. A bunch of what-ifs. You forget that he lives in an area of Europe that doesn't always allow for adsense. That is detrimental to his earnings. But you completely factored it out.

But I digress. I will no longer ask questions oh goddess of YTtalk.
