Should I Be Sad About Dislikes?

Maybe they're dislexic.

You've never seen a video with more dislikes than likes? May I offer exhibit A) My video "Tutorial, how to switch to uploads only" That video was hit by a tsunami of hate hahahahahahaha And let's not kid ourselves here, some people make horrible content. It may be just terribly awkward, it may be like they put no thought into at all, and good normal people might dislike that video. They might even come in the comments and be like "what was the point of this" or "I think you should try something different this isn't your thing" And they literally mean what they're saying. They think you're embarrassing yourself and they are telling you.

However, the way to know whether or not it's that, or just "trolls", is by the way they comment, and by the ratio. If you are getting almost no likes, all dislikes, and the comments aren't JUST cruel, they're people saying things like "Yeeeeah... I see what you were trying to do and it was a nice try but just... no man.. no" Things like that? You may need to rethink your content.

But if you're getting good mixed with bad and the ratio is more likes than dislikes, then don't worry about the haters, they're just not your market. And lastly, if a video suddenly jumps in views and then tons and tons of nasty people flood in out of nowhere saying nothing productive but just "kill yourself!!!" and stuff? Don't fret. You've been put on 4 chan or the cringe section of reddit or some place where trolls gather just to hate on people.

So keep these things in mind. Hate doesn't ALWAYS mean there's trolls on the other end of this, you gotta look at the evidence and decide if it's you or them.

And these are the reasons why there is no such thing has "haters" and dislikes and likes are a good thing!

I've come to terms with the fact that "haters" just means "people who hate you". But the image it conjurs up of lowly nasty pathetic individuals hiding behind the screen spreading hate day in and day out is just stupid. If Kesha was on our forum, and I were to go watch her video "Blah blah blah" I would go in there and go "seriously, this was disgusting, listen to what you're saying in the lyrics, and the way you're glorifying drunkenness and sluttiness is just shameful, I'm sorry but this was just awful" And guess what I would be to Kesha. A hater.

Better getting dislikes than no ratings at all! Dislikes still counts as 'user engagement' and will only benefit the video.

This is assuming the video isn't actually total crap. Well I mean, unless you wanna go the coppercab route and make it OFF of your hate. But I can't imagine it feeling very good to be making your living off of how much people hate you. I would imagine you'd either have to be dead inside to not care, or the people who do it act like they don't care but deep down it eats at them. Either way, if you get nothing but dislikes all the time I'd take a good hard look at your content and most importantly ask yourself "have I done something wrong, have I been too offensive" Because what I've noticed is that quality wise, things that aren't very well done but aren't offensive, usually only get hate if they are just GOD AWFUL. I mean you can be pretty dang mediocre and you're not gonna get a flood of dislikes most people aren't that cruel.

But things that are ignorant and truly offensive? Those will get dislikes like no other, possibly even from me.

True. Luckily you can always disable ratings if it really bothers you:)

yeah, I could see that being necessary even for non offensive content if the subject matter is controversial enough or you're talking negatively about someone famous. So many factors hahahaha we gotta be REAL honest with ourselves if we want to walk the line between not letting hate needlessly bother us but not ignoring valid criticisms.

Nah, everyone get's them, you'll eventually feel normal about them. It's good to have some dislikes rather than all likes, it neutralizes it a bit :)
