Setting up to launch a adword campaign - and consulting?

This is a very good idea and what I am leaning towards - I agree that there are some channels that have just video after video with titles "Best learning video for.." and now I know why. I was wondering why so many channels had repetitive titles. I think I will look for some combination.[DOUBLEPOST=1500493547,1500493416][/DOUBLEPOST]

Actually had a question about this. Are you allowed to use company/brand names in title or text, thumbnails etc? I was wondering if there would be some copyright issue. If not, I know exactly what I would focus on but I felt a little reluctant to go with just one company or brand.[DOUBLEPOST=1500494174][/DOUBLEPOST]

Hi - you have a great channel, I like it. what does "concentrate on an evergreen" mean - do you mean toys that have persistent popularity? I think that is what I am going to aim for. if you don't mind me asking, did you channel take off quickly from the very beginning or did it take some time to build. And was the growth gradual or did you have one video take off and the rest followed. - thanks![DOUBLEPOST=1500494381][/DOUBLEPOST]

I was also inspired by Derrel Eves' suggestion on creating playlist. I wasn't clear if you had to make a new playlist or if adding a video to your playlist was enough to leave the digital mark. His presentation was quite eye-opening actually.[DOUBLEPOST=1500494569][/DOUBLEPOST]

I agree with you. I have patience, but not as much faith. After starting, I started to find the MILLIOn other channels trying to do what we are doing. I didn't find them in my search when I began because they didn't show up in my search. Some are not good but there are some that make really great videos and get no views. That makes me lose faith. But this forum is making me feel like it is possible to succeed. For me too, 2-3 videos is the absolute max. I don't want to quit my day job, but I would like to have the option to if I wanted! Hopefully one day!
i use some terms interchangably. Sometimes ill say keyword, or topic, or brand. In this case Brand is usually name of a toy or cartoon/movie with toys. So like pj masks toys, disney cars, thomas and friends. These are examples of brands that are popular toy videos. Some channels do mostly a select few brands for their channels. Bigger channels do more brands. Im no expert but i dont think there is any cooyright violation for how most channels use these keywords.

Ah, I see. I was thinking brand names, like company names like fisher price, mega bloks or legos. You are right that many channels use them (and their logos) but I wasn't sure if they get permission or something. I tried searching for this and it seemed that the general consensus was that it is OK. But wanted to be sure.

Also, do you know if music from apps (like nursery rhymes) are copyrighted? I know most nursery rhymes are under creative commons because they were made so long ago but recordings are copyrighted. I wasn't sure about apps...I cant sing so I don't want to do that...haha.

Sorry i dunno. Youtube offers a lot of free music in the music library. I get all my songs from there. They have nursery rhyme recordings too.

In response to KTP: evergreen in this respect means toys that have enduring popularity. Our growth was very slow... made a lot of mistakes in the beginning. We had a few videos start to pop at once when we experienced real growth. The thing that helped the most was sticking to our roots in the toy trucks vertical, and drastically improving our video quality. I wish we had done better with thumbnails early on, too!

We have been suggested by some of our thomas videos, but not all.. did you just stick with toy trucks because of those videos being sugguested or because your son really enjoyed doing them? I feel like we are hitting a wall.. some of our thomas videos are getting suggested but my boys would rather do other videos and not thomas..

We pretty much only do things Jack would be interested in. Every time we have strayed from his interests we have paid the price, and the point of our channel is to capture his genuine enthusiasm. We've also had some success with Thomas, but toy trucks and things related to them are our bread and butter. We've recently branched out into Legos, but focused on the Lego City ones with a lot of vehicles. I think this cross-over has allowed us to make some headway in this niche.

The flip-side of having a narrow focus is that you can bore your audience doing the same thing time and time again. We still have to take chances.

Agreed, this is a fantastic discussion. Getting insight from all different angles.

My wife and I are literally starting out and only in the video planning phase, but we want to focus on the learning with toys niche - something most of the top channels are already doing and some of you guys here too I believe. Our kids and they have a wide variety of interests, so we want to do videos with a variety of branded toys.
From what I'm reading, doing keyword "learning ____ with thomas" videos for a few months will help get YT to recognize and brand you more easily after which you could get suggested on similar channels.
But we would like to do "learning ____ with thomas", "learning ____ with paw patrol", "learning ____ with cars", "learning ____ with frozen" etc, to align with our kids interests.
Does anyone think this is too broad (and already saturated) for YT to eventually brand and rank us?

I like the Walmart analogy. While I have nothing to back it up, I always thought of a YT Channel as Walmart. And each of the different departments are playlists. I would love to put all our videos under one channel, rather than have to create (and manage) multiple channels under different toy brands.
On the subject of multiple channels, is a benefit in case one of your channels is shut down (lose all revenue); the whole "don't put all your eggs in one basket"?

I was reading a semi recent article about how keyword metadata (titles, tag, desc etc) are becoming less of a ranking factor (compared to say views, subscribers, watch time) now that the YT engine is able to "listen" to the audio of a video and pull out keywords itself.

You guys mentioned old videos dying out faster. That kinda makes sense given how much similar content is being pumped out daily by top and lower channels. The pool is getting bigger so videos are getting diluted. The old videos are getting pushed down faster and don't get a chance to be view as much as they used it.
Kids evergreen niches like nursery rhymes and songs seem to be the exception. Every couple of months our kids relisten to popular songs like "wheels on the bus" and the views seem to consistently climb.

I actually feel good that there seems to be a consensus around this idea. I'm getting a little bit more optimistic! At least my boys will be happy if I focused on toy vehicles and parking garages!

In regards to Derral Eves, when you create a new playlist, it creates a unique URL. Only other way to create a unique URL is with video publishing. Adding a video to playlists doesn't create unique URL. ;-). He even goes to say who cares what's on the playlist or even if they are related. Lol!

Yes, totally get the genuine enthusiasm. My boys are really into nerf, video games and zombies and such (they want to film videos like extreme toys tv/feegeetv) but that niche is so so big and our skits are only 3 mins long.. plus my boys are so much younger.. may have to just find a middle point some how. I have an idea as to what to do but taking the chance is kinda scary haha..[DOUBLEPOST=1500547485,1500547359][/DOUBLEPOST]

The video that is running our channel right now is coming from a playlist traffic source.. which is so strange, so I'm starting to think playlists are indeed something to start creating more of.

Very interesting! I have the Analytics app for my phone. But, how do you know specifically that traffic is coming from a playlist? Do you have a way to know exactly which playlist?
