Make your channel art nice and pretty but most of all "you" same with thumbnails don't go copying someone else maybe use a bit of inspiration but make em unique to you, design is a good part of branding yourself

Linking your Google Plus account to your YouTube might seem like an awesome idea, but I think it causes more problems than its worth (such as not being able to choose your own URL). Don't do it

Tags/keywords are extremely important. Don't go through all that hard work of filming, editing, uploading and come up short on your keywords. This is especially the case if you're small, the only way you're going to get discovered is through searches and if you can't be found, then you're going to have a rough time building an audience.
