This is a topic that gets brought up a lot on here, and you'll find the majority vote to keep your subscribers hidden. They'll say that if you hide your subscribers it appears to them that you are ashamed of how many subs you actually have, and see it as pathetic. I, on the other hand, tested this method out when I started this channel LyfeWithDragons, and hid the subscriber count for about two months, and it was amazing.
To me, hiding the subscriber count makes your channel feel like it's exclusive to a person who does subscribe, and shows you don't care what the numbers say. For you, it should test that people are joining you based on your content, not because they wanna just be part of a crowd. In the end, hidding the subscribers, or showing them, it's up to you. You ask if it plays a part in you getting subscribers or not, and it does, a little, not a whole lot.
Note: I'm now showing my subscriber count, and testing it for another two months then I'll most likely turn it back off. I'll continue testing it till I see which results I'm happy with.
