Actually the funny thing is, the MOST traffic I ever got on YouTube was post other stuff that I didn't make but was relevant. I actually have a video with 1.5 million views, two videos with over 150,000, and several in the 40-50,000 area on my personal channel.
What were those videos? Inflammatory news clips, a couple comedian bits, and a movie scene. I'd be willing to bet that the absolute FASTEST way to make a YouTube channel would be to do quick "reports" on hot button issues, so long as you're quick about it. Hell I'd put money down right now that anyone who did decently polished videos about GamerGate, ISIS, Eric Garner, and Bill Cosby would have an absolute mountain of subscribers right now.
Gaming? Nah, sorry. This is a way harder slog.
