Well, not sure about pc recording software. But, OBS seems to be a good one. Editing software can range from windows movie maker to sony vegas and more advanced adobe premiere pro!

Well, some specs! A good graphics card. Atleast 8gb ram and a good quad core processor. And, lots of hdd space for your recordings.

Recording software:
OBS is free, camstudio, shadowplay (if you have a nvidia card) and bandicam. Dxtory is 20 quid and I think it is probably one of the best software out there to be recording pc games at the highest quality since you can select which codec you want the video to be recorded with.

Editing:
Lightworks (free) ,Adobe Premier, Sony Vegas

Good videos for you to watch (watch?v=mj7xFFxxdu4)
(watch?v=Qlj_ki5htZA)

I'm using Nvidia ShadowPlay at the moment however haven't tried it with commentary. I've been using Movie Maker although I'm looking into a few of these editing software suggestions.

Fraps is a really nice recording software, and what's also nice about it is that doesn't have a huge performance impact, I use it quite a lot :) If you have an nvidia card, there is shadowplay which is said to have no performance drop at all. Having an nvidia card myself, I've never used it but I've been told it's really good if you want to get into that sort of stuff. If you get camtasia for recording, it comes with an editing software which is basically two in one. If you decide to get a separate recorder, premiere pro is a great video editor. It is quite pricey though, so if you're on a budget pinnacle studio or sony vegas are more on the affordable side. Hey, even going with the free windows live movie maker would be good enough to start.

For specs you're mainly going to want to focus on GPU and CPU. A GTX 750ti or a raedon r9 290 should be good enough although if you're wanting to record at 60fps I'd go for a gtx 970 (just make sure you have a good enough PSU to run the cards) . CPUs I would suggest is an AMD fx6300 or fx8350, or if you like intel I've heard the i3 or i5 processors work well for recording. I'd also be sure to have 8gb RAM, it'll give you better performance with texture-heavy games. Apart from that the rest won't affect your performance significantly :)

My main form of recording used to be fraps until I found Dxtory, you can even use fraps' codec using it and it has very little fps impact. For me though I stopped using fraps because of fps impact but having a GTX 970 and I5 now I see no issue's with recording anymore.

I'm still yet to try out dxtroy, maybe one day :P I used to face fps drops as well when I was using my r9 270x although I never went below 30fps so they were still watchable but with the gtx 970 I could record at 60 fps which is pretty cool.

Yh! It's amazing how at ease better hardware gives you. What I like about Dxtory is since new codecs tend to come out every year you can try them out instead of being bogged down to a single type of codec that a software would usually have. No more turning down settings for me :bounce: I just need an SSD now so my computer can boot up faster.
