Rant about entitled amateurs... -_-

I Love YTtalk
Just have to get something off my chest (which is quite small, so this won't take long:tongue:).

I'm scrolling through the Collabs board here and seeing post after post of people with under 50 subs saying things like "You must have 50 subscribers or more to collab with me."

Ummm... excuse you?

You only have 50 subs (or less!!) and are looking down on and refusing to associate with people with fewer subscribers than you?

It's just sort of pathetic.

I understand that after a point, you might need to set subscriber limits on collabs for it to actually benefit you as channel promotion. But I mean... I have a little over 1.5k and I do collabs that involve lots of people and I don't set a minimum sub requirement. You know how many subscribers most of my current collab's participants have? Under 100. No big deal though, because the point is to make some friends and create an interesting video, not "rent" successful people for channel attention.

Rant over.

I understand it from both sides me. Collaborating mostly is about audience sharing with a mutual goal and in order for the collab to be worth both parties time they should have a similar sized audience to bring to the table in order to make it fair. A channel with 50k subscribers would receive little to nothing from a channel with 100 subscribers and the collab time could be spent doing other things.

With the videos you are doing your goals are different there, you want the message out there so the subscriber amount is irrelevant but for most channels and most collabs the goal is to share the audience where everyone is gaining something from it equally.

I do see why some people set requirements and others dont but I do agree with you at 50 there is VERY little for either party to gain, at that size stat requirements are a little too much.

You are so very wise! We're all small here and we're here to help each other get bigger! unless we're talking like someone with 10,000 subs and someone with 3, there shouldn't be a limit on who you're willing to collab with if you truly care about your art form and not just your popularity.

I'm not bothered by it-it just shows me who to stay away from when it comes to collaborations. Chances are that person is going to expect way too much from the collaboration and will be disappointed.

Having a some kind of sub requirement is limiting and bad for business. There's nothing wrong with prioritizing collaborations based on sub count with priority given to larger and like sized channels, but to eliminate someone based on a sub count that is larger than yours is a really dumb thing to do.

@Michael

There are other reasons to do collaborations than just gaining subscribers or growing a channel. We would rather work with a small channel that we know our audience will like (based on their content) than one with a million subs that will p**s our audience off. In the end, good content is good content and the more of it on our channel, the better-and it doesn't matter what size channel it came from. We recently extended an offer to a forum member here that has less than 500 subscribers to make us a series of videos for us because their content is excellent. That obviously isn't the normal way we do things simply because we have much larger channels asking to collab all the time, but it just goes to show that limiting who you work with isn't always a good idea.

I don't have a big channel, but literally every video I have done as a collaboration has been with far smaller channels. I collaborate with people who I know I can make the same sort of content that I usually do and who I will work well with.

I stopped looking at posts in the collaboration forums here because of this reason, I get more annoyed when people harp on about community channels that are welcoming of everyone untill they realise you aren't the same as them and they don't want to know. If I collaborate with someone it usually comes out of a friendship.

It does make you think about what goes through their mind, they will get a lot of exposure, but it's a bit unfair on the bigger channel since they don't get equal amount of exposure. The part that does make me a tad iffy about it is when people say it's a 'requirement' or they 'must' have so and so subscribers, like they're too good for anyone else...kinda strange but that's what gets me about it....

Also, moved this to youtube chat :)

I know that its not always strictly about gaining views or subscribers from sharing audiences but there usually is some sort of benefit in it for both channels. There will be times where larger channels do reach out to smaller channels with good content and help them out of kindness and really wanting to share their content since its relevant to their audience. I cannot say I have seen that take place as often as people looking to both gain something from collaborating but it obvious does happen, WE is proof of it.

If I collaborate with someone it usually comes out of a friendship.

I would love to collaborate with you some day but I get the feeling I would end up getting pranked in some way or another :D

These are the rants I appreciate seeing in the forums.

It really just shows that a fair chunk of Youtubers these days will do anything for publicity.
