The title really speaks for itself, so if you don't want to hear someone ramble as to whether or not they want to make content on the Internet, leave if you feel like it.
Ok, so, I'm 15, and for a fairly long while now, I've wanted to make Internet videos. I pretty much started out as every 12 year old who saw Pewdiepie and was like "WOAH! He makes money for making voices and playing games! I can do both those things too!" and then Youtube became flooded by kids like me, who just did abysmal voice-overs over game footage recorded at about 15 FPS. Expecting to get views, I got sad and deleted videos and realised that doing it would get me nowhere.
I made some Top-10s using Windows Movie Maker, but because I used text rather than my voice, it was obviously not going to get anywhere. While I'm actually proud of some of the editing I was able to do on Windows Movie Maker for a top 10, I knew that the only reason why I was getting views was because I told people at my school, and I managed to get about 70 views (And half of them were myself, sadly).
For a brief while I did sketch comedy, but I know I'm definitely not doing that again. I can barely act for s**t and my voice is incredibly annoying, ESPECIALLY as my voice hadn't even started to break during it. That was a short and embarrassing period in my life.
My favourite Youtubers are probably the people at Normal Boots and Hidden Block; if you don't know who they are, I'd recommend them to anyone who remotely likes games. All of their videos are edited amazingly well, with most Adobe programs being used. After learning what they use to edit, I got the trials for Photoshop and Premiere Pro, and both of which I understand the general gist of. With this, I would love to make Youtube videos about games in the style of NB/HB, because I see it as something I'd enjoy to do. However, there are problems I see with this.
Firstly, my voice is incredibly annoying. I live in Essex, England. If you want to know how people speak from there, watch The Only Way is Essex. I have tried my best to not sound like anyone from there, so i don't slur my "t"s, not do I constantly say "like". However, as it's environmentally surrounding me, I find it hard to not do the things I hate to pronounce in a certain way.
Secondly, while I'll do this for fun and as a hobby, if I get, say, no views, then I won't see a point as to doing it; I would love to entertain or inform people, or at least make them like the video. If no one is entertained, then what's the point in doing something made specifically to entertain people? I want people to enjoy it at least as much as I enjoy making it. Whether or not I can make people enjoy it is the most important factor to me; a comment saying "Nice Video!" or "I really enjoyed this" et cetera will drive me to make it.
Thirdly, it's an incredibly massive genre of videos to try and get noticed in it is probably like trying to find a needle in a haystack; I'm there, but regardless of my quality, no one will probably notice me, as hard as I try. I won't like to advertise either, because as much as I would like people seeing and enjoying what I make, I have that part in my mind that tells me that no one will like what I make. If family/friends saw me make the content I make, I feel like they'd be embarrassed by me, as well as me being incredibly embarrassed by the fact that they know.
I see countless 15 year olds or younger try to make videos with varying popularity between them. One popular young Youtuber I've seen is TyranitarTube. I don't know how old he is, but I'd guess he's no older than 16. He has over 200,000 subscribers as of this, and of course I never expect to be as popular as he is, but he's probably the most popular young Youtuber I know. Another person I know is Haedox. I'm not sure of his age either, but he's probably not over 15 either. Not advertising him, but I was just showing that someone 16 or under could get a popular video. He has just fewer than 700 as of this, but he's got a lot of views on a review of his.
There are countless people who put effort into videos regardless of age, but there are a lot of young people who don't understand quality control. They record using free video recoding software, of games that are uploaded in the hundreds every minute, and they don't even bother to edit it. I know how to make a decent looking thumbnail, and I know the basics of editing a video well, so I would only upload a video of high quality. I'm probably going to save up for a high quality microphone, such as the Blue Snowball microphone with a pop filter. I know what quality I'm going for, but I have the issues.
Editing my voice overs would make me cringe because I don't like my voice, and I can't change it, so I don't know how to get used to it. Other things I can get over, but I just need a little bit of help with a few questions:
Is putting in the money for a good microphone for a starting channel a good idea? Is there any way to get used to my voice when editing it? Should I even attempt this? Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
