Promoting on other videos?

are you allowed to comment on other videos saying something like this 'hey, i also upload........ could you check out my channel... etc'. i mean some people may consider this to be spam but, i have had really good results. i managed to get 45 subs in a day! i only commented on about 2-3 videos but, i don't want to do it if you are not allowed to. any thoughts?

It's spam aka Unwanted messages so I would say no, it's not allowed and is frowned upon by people because you're using their channel to grow yours.
 
No, I don't think it helps anyway. Personally I avoid anyone that wants attention in the comment section. Just make smart comments that might take you to top comment section. That might give you a better traffic.

i have a comment with over 200 likes and haven't really seen anything from that
 
People who promote within your own channel have no shame - should be exiled to Mars and never be spoken of again!

Doing it on other channels is an immediate one-year sentence to the Moon. There, you've been warned! :P
 
I would definitely mark such comments on my channel as Spam. At least if they don't point out a strong relation.
 
Id rather just post on forums and relative face book groups in order to get views etc, you never know, ive had quite alot of views now and ive only uploaded since monday.

personally id rather work on thumbnails and channel layout before i start trying to promote myself
