Promoting channels offline

Hi guys, has anyone ever tried promoting your channels off the line :). That is not through facebook, twitter, reddit, youtube, whatever.

I was thinking of making business cards with links in them to give to friends, or put it in a coffee shop somewhere. Has anyone ever done this? Does it work?

You could always wear a t-shirt with your youtube channel on it.
Never tried the business cards, but unless you do something really nice I don't think people will watch it.

Hm its certainly a interesting idea. Though I don't think it would work very well. I mean the best offline (or sometimes online) promotion is your fans word of mouth. I think going "Hey I do youtube, heres my card, watch some" I dont think it would go over very well..

I think the buisness cards actually sound like a good idea....however if not placed in the right places you may find yourself wasting money that could have been used to buy online advertising....and don't wear a tshirt with your channel on it.

Yes. I put my channel link on bookmarks and stick them in books in the library :D Also, whenever I go to Best Buy, I leave my channel page open on the computers.

Definitely! It's always a good idea to promote whenever you can, online and off. If I ever have enough subs and views to actually be significant, I'm going to get little business cards in the shape of clapper boards (something I incorporate into all my reviews) and have my details on the that I can hand out/ leave lying around. I'm quite lucky in the respect that after meeting Tom Hanks (video in my signature), I get a lot of people asking me about it, and it comes up in conversation quite a lot, so it's easy for me to slip in the old "hey, check out my video about it". I was hoping that would be my gateway video, but it didn't take off the way I'd hoped lol.

The business card thing isn't a bad idea, I could leave them in local music shops or something. Might give it a go, not sure how effective it will be, online advertising is always going to be more effective I suppose because people are already at their computer and a click away from your channel.

Yeah that'll always be the case if they're just left about, even if it is in a relevant place (i.e. music shops for you, dvd aisles for me etc). 90% of them will get put in the bin, not even looked at, it sucks but it's just how it goes. It's the 10% hit rate you have to be positive about. If you physically hand them to people, your 90/10 split will go the other way. If you have a decent conversation with someone, get them interested in what you're selling, and then hand them a card, it's unlikely they won't at least check it out.
I do magic in bars/ clubs etc for a living, so I know the do's and don'ts of physical promotion. But this YouTube s**t is hard man.

Dangit! I was at Best Buy like two days ago! That would have been great to do! And people still go to libraries?!
