Great thread! Curious to see what all of your thoughts are on using big youtubers channel names in your tags. For example, a clips show using Ray William Johnnson or =3 in their tags.

The Valentine's Day is a perfect example.

You would probably have to copy more of their tags to actually get into their related videos. And it is a pretty dishonest way of trying to get views.

Yeah I agree with that. It probably isn't even useful because people watching a video that has, say, 100K views probably won't click on a side video that has 20 views.

If the thumbnail / title is compelling they won't even look at the view count...

It's no more dishonest then those people that go like, "Hit Me Baby One More Time - Britney Spears - [Remix] [Cover]" With the cover portion as the last piece of text that you can't see in normal search, haha.

The problem with using other people's tags is that google has all these algorithms and rating systems happening behind the scenes so you would need to make sure that their tags are relevant to your information. Because if you put in like "sxephil, ijustine, etc" and people click on your videos from being suggested and don't like and thumbs down and click away quickly then google learns quickly that your video isn't related or relevant and will stop bringing your video up to those tags.

The existence of multiple dishonest techniques doesn't make them less dishonest.

He did ask about using the name of a big channel with similar content, so the clicking away might not even be that much of a problem. But I doubt that you'll even get onto their related videos with just 1 or 2 tags. Big channels know how to tie their videos together and it's hard to break in there, probably even if you use all of their tags.

I feel that it can be a useful tactic, dishonest or not. I don't think I've done it more than once and I think I'll only do it if I really think a particular video deserves more views than I get normally.
