where the fields are green and the air fresh
hey people.

since youtube is updating and the backgrounds are gonna be gone i have been making some more thumbnails. one of them being for my limbo series, but im stuck. i have been using photoshop for a while now and know the basics and a little more, but now i want to make the background and foreground fade into eachother a bit, and i just cant find a way to do that. do you know any way to get the job done?
here is a example of what i have right now.
i would like to do it myself, not some1 of the forum to do it for me since it will help me understand the programm better in the future :)

Have you tried playing with the transparencys on the layers?
kinda, i have been going over it with various diffrend brushes with diffrend hardness's. but honestly i dont see a lot of diffrenses with the hardness when it comes to masking.

Which part of the image do you specifically want to fade into the background? The colour swirl?
yeah, like a soft edge. the color swirl fading into the gray a bit to get a softer edge and making it more in the style of the game

You mean to like feather the image? like smoothen the layers so the edge looks less sharp?
stuff like that yes. i also i cant find anything on the internet of moving specific sections of pictures to background and foreground, is this possible? i would assume it is, but cant find any options on it when i select a section.
and now ive also kinda figured out how to do the thing i was trying to. jazzy helped me out pretty good :)

I think I know what you mean, so here`s an example.
So here`s an image but it transmits /ends in to the background really sharply : http://gyazo.com/96685354604373c4ab8b7c75b318d6f5
After feathering it looks like this : http://gyazo.com/5198fe135dc80a8ea74ba0e5971bacf3

If that`s what you mean, the how to do it is :

1) Use the rectangular marque tool to select your image : http://gyazo.com/00f0f3c209e52d90c98678d222195203
2 ) Then press Ctrl + Shift + i (inverse keybind)
3) Then at the top where it says feather, change it from 0 to about 5-10 : http://gyazo.com/6899863a16dc2ea141d9b8b19b72c1cb
4) Then press the delete button 2-6 times

And that`s it :)
