Opinions On Video Length??

Hi guys,

I made this thread because I have been making videos on and off for the past year and I am having a hard time gaining views. I have noticed that a lot of other forums say to keep your videos short in length , like less than 10 min. I myself have tried this for a few of my videos and some of my videos are just longer in length. What are your opinions on video length?

I wrote some days ago to Lazy Game Reviews (over 200k) on the topic, this is what he answered:
"I try to keep my game reviews anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes long, or about the time it takes for someone to eat a quick meal (because I like to do that when watching videos)." I assume it can apply to every kind of video.
Hope it will help.

Thanks, that is a good way to look at it!

LGR is the best, I love his stuff. Sound advice, I do the same thing when watching videos. :P I usually eat my lunch and watch something.

For my videos, they're usually very short, 'cause they're just quick thoughts on things. Sometimes they're longer, like my discussion videos with my friends or a podcast I do, but mostly I have short videos.

Hmmmm I think this depends on a couple factors:

1) The type of videos you make (e.g gaming, daily vlogs, rant-type videos, how-to's...etc). If you're just making a rant type of video, probably best to keep it shorter, as a general rule of thumb. But let's say you were making a daily vlog, you'd likely be okay making a 10-12 min video.

2) Your skill level. In other words, how well can you keep your audience's attention? Are you capable of brining value for 10+ mins, or can you really only do it for a few mins? These are good things to consider when thinking of length as well. A good example of this is the show #TableTalk done by Sourcefed Nerd. Those videos are usually 15-25 minutes long, but the hosts are skilled at keeping the audience's attention, and people actually want those videos to be long.

Hope this helps!

This is my view on how video lengths should be usually:

Review/Idea/Gameplay Discussions: >10 Mins
Lets Plays/Walkthrough Parts: As close to 20 minutes as possible

You can also upload your livestreams to you Youtube after you complete them on Twitch because I usually just play a game and then watch a livestream or someones livestream that I missed from the other day. But it can end up being a 2 hour video sometimes... it really all depends what your audience likes. Listen to their comments
