One of my popular videos is not earning. WHY?

Okay. I am back from vacation. So I have read through the replies since I left. Thanks for the replies.

Here are my thoughts. I too was under the assumption that maybe because the topic was about guns, that might have been the problem. Of course the video is about an old antique air rifle, not a firearm. I went in and got rid of the word "Gun" from the keywords. This had no effect. Last week before I left for vacation, I did a review video of some .22 ammunition. It is now my 5th place top earning video, so I don't think the topic of guns is the problem here. Hunters (which is my target audience) buy millions of products that do not violate google's ad policies and those ads could appear on my videos about hunting (I produce videos about many other subjects as well).

So far the video in question has received over thirty thousand views since it was posted on July 16th. For most of that time it has made no money at all. But on August 5th, it made $2.55 in a single day; and then went right back to earning nothing. So now I am really confused. How can this be possible? How can a video go from earning nothing, then to earning a bunch and then back to nothing? This adsense thing is giving me a headache. I just am trying to understand.

I am uploading a graph image from analyticsUntitled.png that shows this sudden spike in earning on this video.

maybe it is some sort of glitch or something, like the inactive sub removal glitch youtube had a month or two ago, no one was losing subs that were inactive, then all of a sudden they lost like tons all at once

was there a spike in views on that day? That would probably be my first guess. Otherwise it wouldnt make sense.

By the way, editing keywords wont have an immediate effect on an existing video. the effects won't be analyzed instantaneously. Youtube seems to have varying schedules for analyzing your video and updating. For example when i upload a video it might show up in youtube search that it only has 7 views. Even if my video has already accumulated 100 views. Maybe after a day or two will i see youtube make any updates on the search side. And ive made edits that dont seem to have made any effect on the video at all.

The best time to have the right tags and keywords are in the first 24 hours when the video is uploaded. Post upload edits dont have quite the same effect.

No there was no spike on that day. Actually, August 5th was one of the lowest views day since the video was posted with only 329 views. An average day is about 1000 views. Anyway, I wish youtube or adsense would give more comprehensive information about where the revenue is coming from. That way, we could learn what we are doing right or wrong. I am not going to change what my channel is about or the topic of my videos, but if I can tweak them a little to make them more useful and increase revenue at the same time, then both my viewers and I benefit.
