Not comfortable using my last name :/

Do you think it's a good idea to use your real name on YouTube?

I have/had the same concerns, which is why for youtube (and some other things), I use "olive" as my first name. I also cut my real surname in half, and distance my "online" self from my "real" self. I just like to keep work and fun very separate. You might be able to try something like that for a channel name.
 
It really depends on how you want to be perceived and how "famous" you want to be. Me personally, I prefer solitude so keeping my full name as private as possible is definitely a top priority for me, I don't intend to show my face and I prefer to connect with my viewers via the comments or message section of a video, via twitter, facebook etc... Not everyone likes that though, some people want to take their connection with their viewers further and will be just who they are. Some like to do it in between.

Maybe try finding another flower's name and use that as your surname instead?

You might want to ask an admin to change your name on this forum as well to match your channel. Rosey Shimmer sounds good.
 
I use my first name on youtube because I want to retain a modicum of anonymity - I.e., I don't want everyone to be able to find me, where I live. where I bank, my personal facebook etc. Not using my last name helps with that I guess.

I tell my daughter not to use her full name online either for the same reason, she is a girl and will get harrassed at somepoint, so will I probably, and I want her to at least feel safe at home if that happens.

Rose is a nice name, why don't you come up with a play on that. Caitlin Thorne or something.

Those are all great ideas, thanks for the list! I tried to go with a variation of Rose. Rosie was my first choice (family nickname) but I'm also careful not use names that are already in use by other people on social media - for me that's the real struggle.
 
I don't think using a full name will be much of a problem but I'd have it hidden away.
For example people think my name is Frankie Delugo. My name is Frank in real but not even near close to the name I'm using.
Although I might be using a fake name, Frankie Delugo is me, I am Frankie Delugo. It's more like an online alter-ego :)
