Not comfortable using my last name :/

Do you think it's a good idea to use your real name on YouTube?

I'm not really comfortable using my last name on YT (which is what I've been doing.) I rather use my given name (Caitlin Rose) but there is already a popular youtuber with that name, so it's a bit of a conundrum. I am trying to think of a username but have trouble coming up with something that I think describes me without sounding corny, or that isn't taken on social media already. I like the idea of adding a noun or adjective after my first name (an example of someone who does this - Chrissa Sparkles) but don't have a good idea at the moment.

If anyone has any advice or ideas, please share. Thank you!

Its entirely up to you whether you want to use your last name or not, it's your name, you have every right to decide whether you want to share it or not,but my advice is to take into consideration that when you reveal your last name to the Internet, it's there for anyone to see. I hope I helped!

DO NOT use your last name. ABSOLUTELY NOT. Should your channel gain some momentum eventually you'll run into a creeper and you don't want to give them any more private personal information than you have to.

Make another "stage" name and have fun with it.

It's really up to you. I've seen a lot of YouTuber's that use their last name. I use my last name on YouTube that way I'm properly recognized for my work but again it's up to you.

I don't think there's really any benefit to using your real name, so if you're not comfortable using it then there's no harm in changing it. The only problem is thinking of a cool name

Ya, but you no female, none is going to creep on you, be thoughtful please. And for Caitlin, i strongly advise not to use your real name as channel name, unfortunately i'm no use to give you any suggestion on what to add instead of your last name to sound good and unique :>

My actual name is the same as a well known Satanist. Plus I troll a lot and don't need people turning up at my door step.

To be completely honest, I think it depends entirely on the type of content that you do. You'll find that a lot of popular YouTubers, while known by their first name or username, will still have their full names listed on Wikipedia and their own Wiki pages, etc.

Some like that as it's a way for their fans to get to know them on a personal level. And they don't divulge their living information - in a recent PewDiePie video, he stated that whenever he's filming on the street, he's at least a few streets away from his house so people can't find him.
I've always been completely open with using my name as I know I'm not producing anything (at least right now) that could spark serious controversy or become something I'm ashamed of.

However, if you personally feel more comfortable keeping your surname private, that's entirely down to you! I'm sure you'll find a name that works for you. Good luck! c:[DOUBLEPOST=1454515405,1454515151][/DOUBLEPOST]

Couldn't disagree more with this. I know of several male YouTubers who have had fans turn up to their houses, begging to come in, knocking on windows and becoming so invasive that one of them has had to move at least twice in the space of one year so just so he can get some privacy.

I completely disagree, I know men who have been stalked so much that they have had to move houses, take Pewdiepie, or Alfie Deyes for example. It's not just females who are most vulnerable on Youtube
