Not able to access my old YouTube account even though I know the email, username AND password!

Hi!
Back in 2006, I created an account/channel on YouTube. The account was linked to my Gmail account, but created before YouTube was acquired by Google. The channel is still online and has a few videos that were uploaded in 2006 or 2007.

I still use the Gmail account, which is now also my Google account. However, even though it's the same email, the Google account is not connected to my old YouTube account. I probably haven't been logged in to the old YouTube account / channel since 2007.

I know there is a page where you can claim old YouTube channels: https://www.youtube.com/gaia_link

However, when I enter my username and my password I get the error message "Channel not available to be claimed". Before, when I didn't remember my password, I got a different error message, so I believe I now have the correct password.

Do you have any ideas how to solve this?

I noticed other people have had the same problem, but no one seems to have found a solution. This person on reddit had the exact same issue:
"I have this same issue. I've reached out to TeamYouTube on twitter and have emailed YouTube and got an automated response. This is beyond frustrating. I have some old nostalgic videos I want to go back and watch.
My account was created in 2006, and that same old non-gmail email is now tied with my current gmail account. It really does not make any sense why i can't claim my old YouTube account and merge it with my current one under my gmail."

It's such a weird issue, where you have your email, username AND password but still can't access your account.

Thanks in advance!
