It is followed by long technical explanations how to make YouTube educational channels accessible to school networks which normally block YouTube.

There are several options here:
- it is a glitch
- YouTube staff reads yttalk.com (I mentioned several times that we are becoming an English teaching channel) and they changed our channel type to educational.

In anyway - does any other channel (especially educational one) see the same thing?

OK. I found some additional information here:

I'm seeing it. Looks like it's mainly just content filtering for schools and whatnot, it doesn't look like something that should be widely released.

Agree. It looks more like a glitch. Most probably it will disappear soon or they will change it. It looks also a little bit like a "glitch" specially designed to "promote" YouTube school/EDU among school staff and pupils if they happened to be YouTube content creators :)

That's the interesting part - how do they determine who is an educator and that they should grant access to this feature?

That's the point! Did you use recently some default tags for your channel which can make the algorithm decide it is educational? May be you made some music/video tutorials. The decision could be algorithmic (based on tags and keywords in your comment) or it could be just a new glitch as I said earlier.

Its an interesting find, it shows that YouTube is going to be in many peoples lives very quickly and early in life and be a great resource not only for entertainment purposes.

Yes, I like the idea of multifaceted YouTube - not just entertainment. Actually I have the suspicion that deep below this was the original idea of Google when they took over YouTube - to create a better and cleaner version of world wild web based on visual information. They had to back up and concentrate on the entertainment aspect for some time but the ultimate goal is still out there! :)
