New Custom URL terms

Heres my (unpopular?) opinion or on this.

I don't think this matters because I think urls are going away and becoming irreverent. A good url is not nearly as important as it used be. Why? because of mobile use. Many people now just you the YouTube app and search for the channels that way and don't even know the urls of YouTubers. For example, I had heard of the beauty Guru Zoella and so I searched her and watch a few videos of her on my phone. I had no idea until months later that her actual url was Zoella280390. I think in a few years more and more people will use the mobile app and just search for the channel instead of typing in the url.

Also, there are tons of successful channels without a custom url. Some even 100k+ subs. I found a lot of people starting off don't need a custom url. Here is a 14 year old who has 25k subs and no custom url:

and she doesn't even have fancy equipment either she does it all on an ipad. This is 2014 and the 2014 YouTube is a lot different then the 2005 YouTube or even the 2013 YouTube. And in 2014 anything is possible.

I agree with most of that, but i think if you have not already built up a massive audiance like Zoella and Zoella in particular has a huge audiance the you are going to want to push the odds in your favour the way i see it youtube is 60 percent good videos 30percent luck and 10 percent misc tagging custom urls thumbnails etc all of that really builds up abything that can put you ahead of your peers is neccicerry in my opinion

So if you can't create a custom URL how do people find you?
I guess it's way more common that people find you by being directly linked to your channel, rather than them remembering your name and typing it into YT - I assume it works with the Google profile/page name.

If I create a Channel called "Projects" It will be called that on youTube? I'm confused.

The channel's name is whatever the Google page name is. The name will not be in the URL, but I assume it can be found via the YT search (so it better not be as generic as "Projects"). Someone here with a random-letters-URL would have to confirm that - I'm only guessing!

I think it alienates new YouTubers, oh why don't you have a custom URL... Oh I only have 300 subs. It makes it harder for the little guys to grow.
