New Custom URL terms

Did you get an email from Google+ with the title "Get your custom Google and YouTube URLs today"? Cause I just got it
It will give you the option to choose a different urlOk, so I got a channel that was created before all this custome URL and mine has changed to a load of random digits at the end (channel/UC8FNlyYBFl9kpYfoX7XmtSA?spfreload=10) is there anyway to change it back to been my username like it used to be?
EDIT: If i search my name on YouTube then click on my account it comes up with this '/user/FlickYOBean?spfreload=10' but if I got to 'My Channel' it will come up with the random letters?

Whoa, I'm so glad I registered a second channel literally three days before the change. It would've been so hard to get 500 subs on a silly 2nd channel. I also uploaded an unlisted video to it just so it seems active because I'm afraid they're gonna take the URL away from me 
Now I'm just wishing it would be possible to change the "vanity URL" on my Google+ profile. I guess I could make a Google+ page and connect it to a website but then I'd still need 15(?) followers until I can set the URL. Why is this so complicated?!

So if we register a new channel now, are they even linked to Google+ pages? And are Google+ page custom URLs being restricted as well? Because they were set up to match as far as I know.
And if we register a new channel it will only be something like youtube.com/channel/ae98fj4af984afn983ahf098qh43q08fhq38f7q until it hits 500 subs? Why can't these features be linked to accounts instead of channels? If OlgaKay opens her billionth channel is she going to have to wait for it to get 500 subs before she can give it a URL?
I would like to fart in the general direction of whoever this idea belongs to.

Kurr-rap. I got the e-mail for the change today but I had no idea they had pre-selected ones for you. I mistakenly thought I'd be able to change it to whatever I wanted (finally just Cromartie instead of all the numbers and surname I have now). My only other option is the much longer CartoonsbyCromartie. D'OH!

Heres my (unpopular?) opinion or on this.
I don't think this matters because I think urls are going away and becoming irreverent. A good url is not nearly as important as it used be. Why? because of mobile use. Many people now just you the YouTube app and search for the channels that way and don't even know the urls of YouTubers. For example, I had heard of the beauty Guru Zoella and so I searched her and watch a few videos of her on my phone. I had no idea until months later that her actual url was Zoella280390. I think in a few years more and more people will use the mobile app and just search for the channel instead of typing in the url.
Also, there are tons of successful channels without a custom url. Some even 100k+ subs. I found a lot of people starting off don't need a custom url. Here is a 14 year old who has 25k subs and no custom url:

and she doesn't even have fancy equipment either she does it all on an ipad. This is 2014 and the 2014 YouTube is a lot different then the 2005 YouTube or even the 2013 YouTube. And in 2014 anything is possible.

I think the change will really make it harder for new content creators to get found but I guess if your content is good enough the URL shouldn't matter. I am very happy I created my channel long ago and am just now starting to create content for it. I am one of the lucky ones. I am new to the game but still have a URL since I created mine in advance.
