Steps on how to become a decent photoshop designer:
#1: Basic photoshop tuts
#2: More basic photoshop tuts
#3: slightly advanced photoshop tuts
#4: MORE TUTS!
It's how I started a few years ago. I used to just make signature pictures for people on other forums, but after working with photoshop more and more, you come up with awesome ideas for new stuff. And of course using tutorials, and expanding on them. Don't just follow tutorials, but make something original by applying them to different things!

Some of the stuff you find on websites like Abduzeedo or PhotoshopTutorials might not directly show you how to make a youtube background, but they do show you how to use tools, how to create effects, and are great inspiration.
And to get back to Micheals feedback:
Thanks, I do think I like the logo as it is, I don't have an exact color scheme for it, just blue in general, and the glow makes it pop out a bit better, I think.
And yes, I might add my username, I have tried lots of different ways to make text look good, but for some reason I end up not liking the design I come up with for the text. I might just follow a tutorial on some cool looking text myself.

What do you think? Plain white looked bad, so did grey, so I added some 3D and texture. (only the logo part is different)
