Negative people...

Before I even created my channel anyone I talked to about creating a youtube channel told me the same thing: "Why? It's just a waste of time, you use that time doing something more productive. You'll never be popular, you'll never make it a living." I've been doubted by my family and friends on a lot of things I've attempted during my lifetime. There will always be people who will try to bring you down for whatever reasons they have, you have to remember that it's what YOU want to do. If you enjoy creating videos then keep creating videos! I will never let people with their negativity defer me from doing what makes me happy. It's pretty messed up for your brother to say that but it's your channel, not his and at the end of the day you have the final say on what you want to do. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something, the worst thing you can do is give up without trying.
Congrats. Noticed you just passed 100 subs!

Most non YouTubers really have no idea about YouTube, or even how you make and put up a video, so don't take any notice of what they say.

"You will never make it" is drivel from someone who probably would never make the effort anyway.

How can anyone, including yourself, know what lies ahead ?

You can only give it your best shot, and see what happens.

If you put in the hard yards, engage with your audience, it will happen, no doubt at all.

Cheers Rob

My brother also tells me YOU WILL NEVER REACH TO THE TOP YOUTUBERS LIST. But I just ignore his points and I believe in my dreams, I have started YOUTUBE to never give up.

let him say what he wants, when you're rolling in it from all the money you have earnt via youtube, he will soon regret it especially if he needs some of that money for something, don't worry in the end you will win :)

“Whatever negative things people think and say about you is enough to bring you down provided you belief that it carries a weight that can push you hard. Don't agree to accept what critics say; be prepared to silence them by doing what they think you can't do!”
Israelmore Ayivor,

Don't allow people like your brother to rent space in your head. When he talks s**t, just shrug it off. He's obviously bitter and insecure over his life choices, so he wants you to feel insecure and give up on something you're passionate about. Always surround yourself with positive people, even if you have to distance yourself from negative relatives. I leave you with these quotes:

"People who have given up on their own personal dreams and aspirations, have a tendency to try to convince you and discourage you from pursuing your dreams and aspirations." -Casey Neistat

"One day the people who didn't believe in you, will tell everyone how they met you." -Johnny Depp
Love these quotes! Thank you![DOUBLEPOST=1452109848,1452109766][/DOUBLEPOST]Thank you so much everyone for your kind words and support! It has put the much needed fire back in my belly :):D

First of all, really sorry for what you're going through from family and friends.

I haven't had too many negative comments due to the kind of stuff I upload not being overly popular, but it's still happened. The last one I got was suggesting I was a musical plagiarist, likely because of my stuff sounding a lot like actual 80s and early 90s music. Thankfully, the piece they said sounded too similar was irrelevant to the upload (which was of a different piece), so it was relatively easy for me to delete the comment, though I do NOT recommend that solution unless absolutely necessary, especially not with family like in your case.

The other part of it is to just try to develop a thick skin. Easier said than done, I know, and even I am still struggling with my advice, but it's surprisingly beneficial to your emotional health if successfully implemented.

"If you want to avoid criticism say nothing, do nothing, be nothing."-Aristizzle

Take it as as good sign. It means you are actually doing something.

Hi Christine - sorry to read that you're going through that. :( They say you're the sum of the five people you spend the most time with. I think that applies online as well - I don't talk to many family members or IRL friends about this hobby because I'm here to have fun and be surrounded with positivity and other people who are trying to improve their craft (like everyone here on this forum!), because honestly?

The negativity they have to offer is irrelevant. Simply put, they're not experts. They don't know as much about the platform and they don't have the passion about it that we do. All they have is the common misconceptions. We all already know this is a tough thing to do, but it's not relevant to remind us of that every day because we're going to do it anyway!

They can't know how much we enjoy and believe in it until there are results that they can see for themselves, and until then, we don't need unfounded negativity. Since you can't take back other people knowing about your channel, I'd say just focus on your online friends for the online stuff - they understand it best.

And if your brother's being annoying, feel free to rant to me any time :p
