Negative people...

People have felt threatened by creative types for thousands of years. Everyone is born with creative tendencies but most people allow society to stomp out those tendencies. But for everyone who gives up on the creative side of their life, they can never be truly fulfilled. It has to come out some way. Don't let others discourage you, they don't really have your best interests in mind. Only YOU can make you really happy.

The negativity they have to offer is irrelevant. Simply put, they're not experts. They don't know as much about the platform and they don't have the passion about it that we do. All they have is the common misconceptions. We all already know this is a tough thing to do, but it's not relevant to remind us of that every day because we're going to do it anyway!

They can't know how much we enjoy and believe in it until there are results that they can see for themselves, and until then, we don't need unfounded negativity. Since you can't take back other people knowing about your channel, I'd say just focus on your online friends for the online stuff - they understand it best.

And if your brother's being annoying, feel free to rant to me any time :p

So your brother, bothers you ? well if it makes you feel any better its not youtube fault, its your brother who is not supportive. You could be trying to learn to play piano and he would still say the same.

What I am trying to say basically is that, don't pay any attention to this and use your anger to make better videos on youtube and become popular and then you could say to your brother "in your face" :bounce:

I guess you have not taken into account, the effect, if you use your full name. What you have explained, that is what you can expect. If you can't take it than I suggest to change your channel name. Give yourself a different name, like authors do.

You're still young, I do not know if you are going to the university. You know which way I go, bullies.

If you care about what others think of you. Then this is not meant for you.

It's hard when people don't support you in what you want to do, but I always try and ignore it or use it for motivation and fuel to work harder to prove them wrong. :smug:

The reason why they are putting you down is because there is truth in those comments. The grand majority of YouTubers will NOT make it, no matter how much effort they put in their videos. I have been one of them for 3 years and with me there are legions of others. Then you have the ones (which seem the grand majority by the amount of threads I see on here) that are effected by such comments because they care too much about the numbers. Just YouTube on. You do it for yourself. If you make it Yay! If not, still a win because you like doing YouTube.

To clarify: by making it I am talking everyone's pipe dream of making it big, and doing YouTube full-time as their job. Sometimes those pipedreams come true though, and you can be certain of one thing if you quit. That pipedream really was a pipedream.
 
Yikes letting your family and friends know about your channel is pretty much asking for it in the beginning. YouTube is the new starving artist. You might as well tell them you are going to be a street mime and try to expect positive reactions.
 
I've been making videos for five years now and it's in my blood. My family at first were a bit strange about it but now it's just a thing i do. No one even bats an eyelid. Keep making videos and they will grow to accept it!
