Negative Comments That Have a Point

I get a fair amount of negative comments. Most of them are more funny than anything. Some are frustrating and strike a nerve. And then there are some that I actually take to heart and that I can't easily shake.

I just got one that said "Thanks so much for scaring the s**t out of a child. unfortunately your video comes up with other Frozen videos for children. you are an idiot." I've gotten several of these kinds of comments in the past. People are upset that their kid or niece or younger brother was watching videos about their favorite show and then came across one of mine and it upset or scared them. And I don't think their negative feelings are unreasonable. I know that kids shouldn't be watching YouTube, or even on the Internet, unattended. But I can see their point of view that they thought their little one was "safe" by searching for certain subjects. They don't expect anything bad or disturbing to come up for that subject. It's naive and maybe ignorant, but I can see it as an honest mistake.

But I also see their point of view that nothing bad or disturbing should come up for certain subjects. Regardless of other channels, mine is still adding to it. And it gets me wondering if I should stop making my videos. I'm not out to scare children and even if the child shouldn't be watching it unattended, it's not their fault if the person watching them isn't keeping a better eye on them. I ultimately tell myself that nothing in my videos is worse than even some scenes in some Disney animated movies and that seems to make me feel better about it.

Anyone else receive any negative feedback that actually had a good reason behind it?

I haven't gotten any mean comments yet (luckily) but I can understand how some of them would actually have a valid reason for the "mean" behind it. What they may find offensive, we may not.
Btw the pokemon horror theme xD OMG.

I don't have much negative feedback, but I my videos are very "G" rated. I don't really have anything helpful to say. I would feel bad too, but I don't know what you can do about it. It is one of the dangers of the Internet and ultimately its up to the parent to make certain that what their kid is watching is appropriate. YouTube has a kids app, YT Kids. I think that is supposed to be a safer place for kids because the videos are vetted.

Sure! It falls into the "constructive criticism" category. I mean, yours sounded a little bit more vitriolic than I would want for that sort of comment, but a lot of people don't know how YouTube recommends videos. It's not your fault that "Frozen" caused your scary-ish video (it's not that scary, it's just slow and weird, in my opinion, but maybe it'd scare a little kid) to show up on an auto-play list, but maybe a warning on it would be appropriate. But yeah, viewers can often say, "I wasn't able to see what you were talking about," or, "I don't think this point you made is correct," and that's perfectly fine.

While I understand why you'd think it's a genuine concern that kids are watching and being frightened by your videos, at the end the of the day it is ultimately the responsibility of the parent or care taker to monitor what their kids watch. Why give a kid free access to Youtube channels when there's clearly a chance of adult content being there?

I'd say make it 18+ where you'd have to sign in to see it. But then you'd still have people signed in under mom. I also went the G rated safe route but if I ever did something not for everyone this is what I'd do

Nah, because then you can't monetize them. Besides, most of my audience is under 18.

Absolutely! Sometimes I'll get blunt and disrespectful comments saying my videos suck and others that are simply constructive criticism. I usually ignore the hate comments while I actually pay attention to the criticism to improve my content. It really helps over time. However, the truth of the matter is that you can't satisfy everyone. If you are doing YouTube for fun and are well aware that your content won't satisfy everyone then you should be fine. People will always have something to complain about and if it wasn't directly your fault, like a child stumbling upon a video that isn't meant for them, then you really shouldn't care. It's not your responsibility. Now if you're click baiting and outright using misleading titles that can attract the attention of a younger audience then that IS your fault. Don't let these sorts of incidents get to you. You'd be surprised how many related/recommended videos show up for me that are completed unrelated to anything I watch. Keep your head high up bro!

If it bothers you stop creating that type of content. They might have a point, but if they let their kids watch YouTube unattended than they are too blame not you.
