My top 10 videos (and therefore my channel) suddenly died!

The first dip was likely Youtube testing some substantial algorithm change or performance metric on your video(s)/channel, and then the later drop them implementing it, no? I wouldn't be surprised if it was linked to their evolving demonetization experiments, but I'm no expert.

Looks like this is permanent, then. Trying very hard to not get depressed over this. I always knew it was a possibility, but after building up my channel over 7 years I only turned on monetisation 4 months ago. It was having such a positive impact on my life, basically giving me a future, and now its gone....

YouTube began to be very superficially "family friendly", trying to repress everything and anything that just MIGHT be not "family friendly"...

Hold on to your hats, after 4 days dead my channel has just started spiking again. All my top videos spiking and being suggested again. Just happened in the last hour so who knows, but it's a little encouraging at least!

Good to hear! Hope it sticks for you this time.

Just out of curiosity, is there any chance the change was to stop relating/suggesting videos based on their common relevance as top 10/5 lists only? That could effect films across a broad spectrum of genres with a common element.

Me too!

Could you rephrase what you mean in the bolded bit?

I know in the past that YouTube recognized, to some extend, if someone liked watching top 10/5 lists, and it would be more likely to suggest related videos in that format.

For example, if I watched a 'Top 10 RPG Games' video it would be more likely to suggest a 'Top 10 JRPGs' video to me (even from another channel) vs another (non list) video about RPGs. I don't watch a lot of list content anymore so it's hard for me to tell but I haven't seen those types of videos promoted nearly as much lately. In fact, it took a bit of searching last time I was hunting for particular 'Top 5 central' video and a few months ago YT wouldn't stop promoting those to me (and I wasn't a subscriber).

Just wondering, based on this, if perhaps YouTube has effectively removed (or was experimenting with removing, or decreasing the weight given to) the 'Top 10'/'Top 5' titles/tags in determining a video's relevance.

Hope that makes sense.
