Movie Maker isn't THAT bad.

I've been doing YouTube for a bit, and I've seen tons of other small YouTubers buy hundreds of dollars worth of software, even if they only have 10 subscribers. Not that this software isn't good. But you can get away with using Movie Maker easily for free, especially in the beginning of a YouTube career. So even though in all reality, Movie Maker is not good at all compared to Sony Vegas, it still works well enough for a lot of early YouTubers. So I was wondering, why is it so frowned upon?

Right on! I've had my channel since 2009, and have used some of the more expensive software, but to this day, unless a video I'm working on calls for something else, I still use Movie Maker! It's an easy, simple, quick piece of software that gets the job done... period! (I know I ended the sentence with an exclamation point and not a period, sorry!)

Cheers,

I don't like Movie Maker because it's difficult to get the precision needed for good editing. I personally use Lightworks, it's free and is pretty much exactly the same as software that you pay for

Mainly due to today's standards everyone expects clear crisp HD quality. Movie maker is good but most people frown upon it because it doesn't give the frame rate that people look for. People look at say Vegas or Premier Pro as the go to for editing (which is like the style)

I've actually seen Sony Movie Studio, which is a essentially a cut down version of vegas, on sale for free after mail in rebate before. Personally I'd rather get something like that because it gives you more options and more precision than windows movie maker. Also to be honest most of the features in a full featured editing software aren't going to be used by common folk so you don't really need the greatest version of the editing software, however I do like having options. Being able to choose my own encoder, resolution, and bit-rate are very important to me as well as having being able to easily cut, move, etc.

All in all while making simple videos and starting out it's not so bad, but once people start making more complex videos they'll start needing more complex software.

That's really cool, I didn't know Sony Movie Studio existed, thanks for telling me

I would still use it, but now I can't even import video because program closes itself. I had to switch to Premiere Pro.

Please explain. I don't understand what you are saying is a problem.

I use MovieMaker and all my uploads are 29 FPS at HD 1080P.

Works perfectly fine for me.
