Monitor LiveView for Sony DSLRs

I'm sorta stuck here. I just got myself the Sony Alpha a3000 DSLR (well, kinda a DSLR but don't have time to explain), and I'm looking for a live viewing program for my laptop so I can see myself on the laptop monitor AS the camera is recording.

I know Sony offers one, but it's only for higher end DSLRs, and well, the a3000 is not very high end.

People with DSLRs, what liveviewing/recording/live monitor program do you use? (preferably free).

Thanks

Unfortunately Sony doesn't have as many options as others do. I personally have the A77 and A55. They are fantastic cameras but don't have all the fancy boy accessories of Canon and others.

I assume that the A3000 doesn't have hdmi out? Also it's not quite as good but my DSLR's have the option to flip up the screen to see myself. Maybe that's a cheap solution for now.

First off, thanks for replying. I wasn't expecting a reply tbh :p

Yeah, it's a bummer they don't have all the bells and whistles and support as Canon or Nikon. And no, unfortunately it doesn't, so I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to be able to connect it to a TV or laptop either for viewing purposes.

Is the flip screen thing an accessory? Or is it a feature on the A77/55?

It's an accessory of a77 and a55. I was hoping yours might have it as well =X

If it doesn't have hdmi then I'm not too sure what other options you may have...

Do you have wifi on your camera? With mine I can log onto my camera from my phone and control it.

Nein. Unfortunately I don't.

I guess the reason it's so cheap is because there is no video output on this thing. I guess I'll keep searching in hope of finding a hack, but if not, I guess I can live with it for now. Thanks for the help.

This is nowhere near a GOOD solution. But we had a camera once with no video output option. What we did was place a mirror behind it. So we could make sure we were in frame and such.
You can't really tell if you're in focus. BUT it does help some none the less.

Thanks haha. I guess that's a cheap and easy solution as well, but think I'll stick to returning it for now and saving up a bit more for a NEX or a better Alpha.

The a3000 also has no mic input which is also vital for me unfortunately. I guess I should have researched it a bit more.

Oh dang, yeah I'd recommend doing the same. No mic imput is killer =X.

I run the Sony A77 and it's quite awesome but pricey.
Apparently there is now the A77ii out and it is like $500 cheaper. Maybe look into that and see what differences they have?

A77 is indeed sexy, but unfortunately both are out of my budget. I'll save up a little bit more so I can expand my options a bit.

Have you used the Sony NEX camera line? Basically mirrorless DSLRs with interchangeable lenses. Pretty neat and cheap for a second hand model.

yeah I have owned one of them. There is definitely a noticeable difference between the two. But it isn't bad quality wise.
However, I don't think they have a mic import though do they?
