Monetizing a song cover... questions

Lee Skittrall

I've Got It
Hey everyone,
I'm still reasonably new here and I'm hoping to get some help.

I have a cover of Radioactive by Imagine Dragons on my channel, it has two warnings for matching third party material (Obviously), But YouTube is still giving me the option to monetize the video,

So I'm extremely confused, what should I do?
Help pleaseeeeeeeee.

Cheers,
- Lee

You can't monetize any covers unless you have the necessariy license(s) to do so. Right now I think your only chance to monetize certain covers songs is if you're with Fullscreen or Maker as they have a deal with UMPG allowing their musician partners to cover songs that can be find in their library.

Well I don't have licences, that's why I asked.

But YouTube (Google) is giving me the option to monetize under these conditions:
Is this a cover song?
If this is your cover of a song written by somebody else, then you may be eligible to monetise it.

(Tick Box) Monetise my video
This is my cover of a song written by somebody else.

So what should I do?

Personally I never had that option but I've seen some people having it and as far as I recall, in the end they ask for proof that you have the rights to monetize the given cover. You should give it a shot and see for yourself though, it may be something different. :)

Alright, thank you :)

It's just a bit concerning, because I know I don't own the rights and I don't want to get my account into any trouble, because I've worked really hard on it, so I wasn't (and still am) a little unsure what to do for the best.

@Shane.C Is this how it appears to channels when a content owner has uploaded into ContentID but isn't taking revenue, only tracking? I've not actually seen a case where you get a content match but still see monetization options. Or is it that new cover monetization system they teased us with which gives partial revenue to both the writer and performer.

Sounds more like, send to YouTube to review do they have a revenue sharing agreement with that label.

Track doesn't show up as a claim.

Reading that has clear up a few things, thanks :)

Maybe it is the new monetizing system, I forgot about that actually.
