Microphone for talking to the camera videos

Hi guys,

I'm new here and I've just started my YT channel. I noticed that the audio quality on my vids aren't very good. That will be because I'm just using the built in mic on my Samsung WB250F.

I'm going to be buying a Canon 700D in June (already have a 400D with plenty of lenses) so will probably see what the sound is like on that, and buy a microphone that can be attached to it.

In the meantime, I'd like a cheapish USB mic (neither my laptop nor my camera have audio in). I was hoping to find one that kind of recorded the audio onto itself (do you know what I mean). If not, a USB one.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

xx

I don't think the audio on your vids are that bad really but if you don't already you can put the audio into a program call audacity and use the noise removal tool to clear it up. Makes it sound much better and saves you money as it's free to do :)

Thanks Rob, I guess I'm looking for perfection! I'll keep what I have for now and see what it's like once I get the 700D :)

No problem. I son't like spending money so always look for ways to save it haha. Audacity is great though, I would definitely look it up if you haven't already.

rode videomic and rode videomic pro are also good mics.. you will always have to do noise reduction in post no matter which mic you get.. that is if you want perfection.. :)

AT 2020 is good, as is the Blue... Little spherical thing... Keep forgetting the name.

As for video mics, we use a Rode shotgun for short films. They make great mics. Not the best but really good. You can also pick up (for about £30) an AT Lav (lapel) mic. That is what I use in my videos because it's quick to set up and get going with.

I've been using a lavalier microphone lately. I basically had to (in my last house there was so much open space the audio sounded like it was being recorded in a concert hall). I used it in my last video as well, the DIY Bokeh and it's great quality. Good for tutorials.

I use a Zoom h4n to record the audio with my Rode lavalier mic. Works great for me!

We have a Zoom H6 for field recording. Stunning bit of kit, it's increased out production values no end. The H6 (and the H5) has better preamps than the H4n
