Managed or Affiliate [Guide]

Hello readers or future stars,
I am Marc and I am going to tell you what you should think about before getting partnered :bounce:.
One thing that I think that is most important now is: "Will I be a affiliate or a managed partner?"
This is very important. If you are a small youtuber or you have a small channel chances will be you might be a affiliate (depends on your network). Remeber being a affiliate will make you not have instant monetization (means that you will have to go through content id system and wait to see if your video will be eligible to be monetized). If you are a big youtuber or have a big channel chances you will be managed! Also you will have instant monetization (means that you won't have to go through content id system. Your video will be monetized instantly).

SiegeTV (Better Version):
Affiliated Channels
This is very similar to being partnered directly with YouTube.

As an Affiliated channel:
  • Every video is reviewed by YouTube at their discretion (this can take hours or days) so you lose the revenue from your subscribers who watch it before YouTube approves it
  • Content ID runs on your channel and creates 3rd party claims that you can dispute
  • YouTube automatically enables Revenue Visibility in your YouTube Analytics
  • The "Request to unlink" button appears in your YouTube Video Manager | Channel Settings (but your network may ignore these clicks)
  • A Strike against your channel only affects your channel and not the network

Managed Channels
As a Managed channel:
  • Every video you upload is instantly claimed and monetized from the first view
  • Content ID does not run on your channel
  • Your network decides whether or not to enable Revenue Visibility in your YouTube Analytics
  • The only way to unpartner is to ask nicely, unless you have a no lock-in contract
  • A Strike against your channel is a Strike against the network
Side-by-Side Comparison
Affiliated: No videos can be automatically claimed and monetized on upload
Managed: All videos are automatically claimed and monetized from the first view

Affiliated: Content ID runs on all videos
Managed: Content ID does not run on any videos, but videos can be found manually by other content owners with manual searches

Affiliated: YouTube automatically enables Revenue Visibility in your YouTube Analytics
Managed: The network decides whether or not to enable Revenue Visibility in your YouTube Analytics

Affiliated: You can request to unlink your channel from your YouTube Dashboard, but the network still needs to approve it
Managed: There is no option to unlink your channel from your YouTube Dashboard

Affiliated: All Strikes only affect the channel’s reputation with YouTube, not the network's
Managed: All Strikes affect the network's reputation with YouTube, in addition to the channel’s

P.S
Wait until you atleast get 10k - 100k monthly till you get partnered. (Better if 1m - 5m monthly.)
Please do not get partnered with 1 - 100 views thinking that you will be managed. Chances will be "No "
Thanks for reading!
-Marc

Unless you're with a network that's had too much to drink, that "might" is a not.

I can honestly say, the differences between managed and affiliate are nothing at all for 95%+ of channels and for about half of the remainder are not much.

It really doesn't make sense for a Network to put more than 100 or so channels on managed and it doesn't make any sense for a channel to go with a network making small channels managed.

"1-10k monthly" I'd say 2-5M with strict quality checks at the very minimum with most MCNs..

Scheduling a video for 2-3 hours is really not a big deal :P
Considering most videos are made days or weeks in advance anyway.

Honestly, being Affiliate isn't that bad. You really just lose the ability to instantly monetize, and it can be easily fixed by using the scheduled uploader. This whole situation has been blown out of proportions by big, misinformed, YouTubers.

Thanks I put this in the post :)
