Low Subscriber Blues

Well I certainly appreciate it, Dane.

I'd still like to hear from others on their methods. I'd also like to know how many of your views come from your subs. Most of mine come from promoting my videos on message boards/facebook/reddit/etc.
Most of my views are from subs as I rarely post on Social Networking sites.

i have a similar 'problem', joined YT in September i think - but started acting and uploading things this month (first video on 1st of December), i have to say i got more views then some of people with more subs, but i stopped on 10 subb... i believe my problem with it is that i only 'play' games i do not do commentary with it. But sometimes commentary might be annoying during the game, so i dunno, should i do it or stick to gameplays only?

NO! If you ever get lots of views you will be screwed. To join a network or ever get partnered you MUST commentate.

Ok, Would You mind to give me some advice, please? I mean what software should i use or basic rules what to do? I'm kinda green with this matter but i learn fast. :)

I think you need to work hard at marketing yourself! Define your target audience. Find out where on the internet they hang out. Put your vids in front of them :)

who would want to subscribe to a channel that rarely ever uploads a new video? It seems you upload once a month? Upload more frequently and market yourself more and you should be getting more subs.

I don't have the time to put out a new video every week at the moment. But when I do put one out, I work my a** off on it to make sure it was worth the wait. And the view count usually reflects that. My videos will usually break 100 views in under two days. Not bad for the subscriber count I have (most of my marketing is outside of subs).

I think I titled this thread poorly. Some of you are looking at this like I'm seriously bummed out about the whole thing. I'm not. I think my videos do pretty well DESPITE my sub count. I was just interested in hearing from everyone on the topic. There's a lot to learn from talking to everyone.

The title says it all. I've been making videos semi-consistently for a few years now. Some of my videos have cracked the 1,000 view mark (I've got one that might hit 3,000 by the end of the year). My videos receive mostly positive feedback, yet my subscriber count sits at 99 as of this moment. It didn't seem so bad until I noticed that quite a few people here (with much less views than myself) have quite a bit more subscribers than me- even the people that just started a month or so ago.

I'm perplexed! I'm sad (unrelated). And I think I'm getting sick (unrelated).

When I see these I high sub counts on other channels I conjure up stories of people that went on a sub4sub binge. Or they tried bots, but didn't like it so they stopped. These people often have a lot more subs than myself, but far less views- so something isn't right, right?!

My question is: what are you doing to get these people subbing? Are they even people?! Does it even matter? Does any of this even matter? I was half-hoping the world would end on the 21st so that I wouldn't need to ask these questions.

I'd like to hear your most sincere answers/apologies as soon as possible. I don't know how much longer I can go on without a nap.

Keep trying brother!
Perhaps try for a quality over quantity approach.
Anyway, all the best. I subbed :)

Looking over your stats I think there are a few things that likely impact both your subscriber and view growth. I don't intend any of this harshly, only to possibly give insight and help.

First, your infrequent upload schedule is likely not encouraging subscribers, if you upload less frequently people just don't subscribe as often. For those who do subscribe your videos also don't show up on their subscription feed as often and are likely quickly pushed off the (now smaller) feed by their other subscriptions.

Second, when I total up your video durations for 2012 I come up with just shy of 45 minutes. This really isn't very much video, and it may especially be hurting you now that YouTube has switched their algorithms to favor view duration over view count. Even though you put a ton of effort into each video if you could put out a bit more of it you'd make your channel more active, and thus more attractive.

Third, I can't detect any upload schedule when I look at the upload dates. The gap between videos varies from a week to almost 2 months. If you have some kind of schedule, or at least are able to announce when your next video will be ready, that can really encourage people to subscribe.

This is all just my opinion of course, and any of it may or may not be suited to how you want to run your channel. :)

P.S. - Actually asking and gently encouraging people to subscribe at the end of videos is rarely a bad idea.

Thanks for the input. It's much appreciated. Putting out videos more regularly is a goal for me soon.

Once I'm no longer dangling over the volcano of financial ruin.

I'm poor.
