I think it also has a lot to do with WHO you are sharing your videos with and how safe you play the marketing of your channel. If friends, family, and kindhearted YTtalkers are the only folks viewing your videos, there is a good chance that the like button will be heavily favored. Start posting on Reddit or *gulp* 4chan... and you've entered hell my friend. In Hell, thumbs are cut off and stitched back on so that they are in a constant state of disapproval.
