January earnings down 70-80%? Why so low?

Hi all,

First off, I do know & understand that January is the worst month for us creators, but i honestly don't understand why my earnings are a LOT lower than the last few months. My monetizable views have almost doubled since a month ago & yet my earnings are down about 80%? My CPM has dropped like crazy also (which is why the earnings are lower) but i don't understand why its so low for me.

Surely this isn't normal?
 
It's very similar across the board. Everyone at this time of year cuts back on their marketing and so the earnings are a lot lower. I imagine you'll see it go back up in a few months after the market goes back to normal.

You are definitely not alone with low earnings so don't ever feel like that. If you are with a network get in touch and see what they have to say, they can give you the best answer.
 
It is not unusual to have seasonal drop in earnings. But 80% is actually unusual. If your channel have long videos and you had selected to have ads during video, check your videos' monetization settings, like in-video ads, some networks may have a automated systems which can change the monetization settings.
 
January is probably the worst due to weather conditions. Much of the networks in the big city of New York have been impacted. It can get very chaotic there.

Long videos tend to have a limit to viewer engagement. 10 minutes is a bit too much. 1 minute is usually the time a viewer spends watching before she\he loses interest.

My average view time is 17:30

I was doing fairly fine for January then about 2-3 days ago (analytics days) my earnings plummeted.

lolwut?

It has nothing to do with the weather. It has to do with the general advertising cycle involving the vast majority of the buying public being tapped out on discretionary spending after Christmas. It takes a couple of months before people get back to normal after spending so much on the holiday season, which is why advertisers tone their campaigns back during that time.
 
Wow I'm glad I spotted this thread. My earnings dropped by roughly 75-80% this month and I thought I did something really wrong :) Its unfortunate for everyone but at least we are in it together :p
