Is YouTube View Botting "Ok?"

This is purely anecdotal and thus doesn't hold much water, but this guy I was subscribed to was terminated for botting his videos. He first did it back when that epidemic was breaking out early last year (I think March or April), so he got away with it once. However, he tried it again and was terminated. His channel was enz0pr0ducti0ns (all o's are zeros).
Think I knew that guy.

Yeah, he used to make parodies of Pokemon, like music videos. He was moderately popular, but he spiked when he used the botting trick to land on the front page. I think a lot of people probably saw him a couple of times, then just never thought of him again.

I also knows a guy. I mean I guess he is doing it. Few days ago I searched his stats on socialblade and he has average 1k views, but then there are days he gets over 10k and lot subs.

Aside from it not being allowed, you're a complete idiot if you look at your total view count and go 'YEAH! People like my s**t!'. The views aren't monetized, it can get you banned. There really isn't a valid reason to even think about doing it.

I second this, surely its obvious that botting views is not only against the terms of service but is also a serious moral issue, it means other channels that are producing content and getting real views are pushed down the rankings and are less likely to be seen because other people with botted views will be held over them in search rankings.

To be fair though, the argument is when these videos are getting "extra views", they are easier to find and thus can gain more natural traffic. Sure, that traffic is not allowed and kind of douchey, but it's not like they really think those views are people watching them. At least it normally isn't, there are some pretty stupid people out there.

Yeah but them fake views are giving them leverage over people without them, people are more likely to watch vids that already have a lot of views because they rank higher on searches, thats the part that I see as the most unfair.

I hate bots more then anything! I have dealt with a few idiots using them before and it's no walk in the park. It's better to have real people view your videos than bots. Better chances of them leaving real comments.
