Is YouTube getting diluted with bad content?

After the last big algorithmic change (3 or 4 years ago) your channel is as good as high watch time it generates. (non)Surprisingly it turned out kids brains (and certain adult brains with some particularities) are especially susceptible of being hypnotized for long hours = generating extremely high watch times. That's why on YT there was a rush who will herd bigger kids viewership as fast as possible and many channels with highly original content had to adopt or dye.
So I wouldn't say there is more bad material on YT now but by far there is much more mediocre/kids/toddlers content. So YT transformed from mainly young people media to mainly kids media with the reciprocal change in content structure.

Do you think there is way more bad content than there is good content on youtube today? A lot of people see challenges, simple vlogs, and what not as little-effort trends where people that don't necessarily want to be creators get a chance to make a fun goofy video that will easily get a million views.

And that the real creators that have the passion to be artists, filmmakers and what not are getting pushed out. What do you think about this? Where do you stand on this issue? And do you think it was easier in '09?

I'm never a good vlogger to be honest. Blogging is very superficial to me because it just eats away at my time. Art is something I do occasionally, and I have thought about making an animation video, but it simply was too much for me. Animation takes too much time and has too little returns unfortunately. Anyone can blog or talk in front of the cameras these days. But the only thing that may never be the same is artwork.

It's about the same as it always was. Actually at least the picture quality has improved, remember those old 240p videos? Ugh, pixel city.

Sturgeon's law says 90% of everything is crap (that applies to art, movies, books, etc.) But it's a lot easier for any kid to make a video now than it used to be, every app has the ability to publish to YouTube, so there is a lot of stuff out there that was never really intended for a wide audience.

Entertainment is what I look for on youtube. Happy, funny, deep, tragic doies not matter if it is filmed on a potato or in 4K for me.

I watched the Glozell ceral challenge cause youtube kept pushing her videos to me. I laughed so much tears were rolling on my cheeks and to this day I do not know why :bounce:
