Is YouTube getting diluted with bad content?

Do you think there is way more bad content than there is good content on youtube today? A lot of people see challenges, simple vlogs, and what not as little-effort trends where people that don't necessarily want to be creators get a chance to make a fun goofy video that will easily get a million views.

And that the real creators that have the passion to be artists, filmmakers and what not are getting pushed out. What do you think about this? Where do you stand on this issue? And do you think it was easier in '09?

Content is subjective, one persons good is another persons bad. I think Pewdiepie is bad but millions think he's good for example. YouTube gives everyone freedom to make what they want and that's whats awesome about it. Without bad content then we can't decide for ourselves what we think is good.

And yes, it was a lot easier in 2009 since there weren't as many creators! :)

well good and bad is completely subjective, just because you thought the big video that got 1 mil views was bad doesnt mean the other million thought it was bad too. if they only ever get 1 or 2 videos reaching that 1 mil mark then maybe their regular content isnt great and they just got lucky on those videos besides just because loads of effort, time and money went into making a video doesnt make that video automatically great too if the content is good eventually they will get a following.

It was definitely a lot more easier back then, one of my earliest videos that I uploaded on my old channel easily got thousands of views even though the content isn't really that great. Anyway, I don't see the good creators are being pushed away by the bad creators, since channels who knows what they are doing and have good contents will always stands out.

I like to think that YouTube is a place where everyone can find what they like. So as long as there are humans, there will be different people with different interests and therefore both the "good" and the "bad" channels will have an audience.

You have a good point that Youtube is getting more and more bad content, but at the same time it gets great content daily as well. In the same way, there are more videos to sift through, but there are also more clicks and viewers as well. So is Youtube becoming diluted with bad content? Maybe, but I don't necessarily think so. I think it's just experiencing growth in all facets, and one of those most certainly is the amount of "bad" videos out there.

There are tons and tons of imitators, copycat content, boring stuff and a lot of brilliance. I think that's the beauty of YouTube, quite honestly. Sure, some of the channels out there may just be doing whatever is popular just to get views, but that's going to be the same for any medium. Each creator stands on his or her own, and I judge by the video content itself, not by the platform.

I don't think it's necessarily bad, more overdone. I try to avoid doing too many of these types of videos on my own channel for that reason, they're entertaining the first time you watch them but I've found I can watch a maximum of 5 videos with the same concept / same script before I need to find something else.

I'm not sure I can claim that my original videos are any more innovative than the ones that are popular right now but I like having something on my channel that people can't necessarily predict to see in the Subscriber box.

I agree with everyone else - YouTube is really subjective, but that's the beauty of it! It's really indicative of pop culture, and it's definitely getting more and more like Hollywood where there are so many differing views on what's good or bad. I definitely think it was easier in 2009 and I definitely kick myself for not starting earlier! I posted a couple of videos but got embarrassed and deleted them, but I really wish that I hadn't because my channel would probably be a lot farther subscriber and view wise today. It's so much harder to get noticed today, and unfortunately in the beginning of your YouTube career, it's easier to get noticed by doing videos that are common and "over-done" since there aren't a lot of people who sadly won't care about what you did during the day when you don't have a lot of subscribers. I wish it was easier for smaller YouTubers to get noticed, because so many of us work really hard and put in a lot of effort into videos!

I think YouTube can't really be "diluted" if you are searching for a specific type of content. But I do think everybody is copying each other.
