The thing with a tablet camera is that it works great only if you have the right lighting. Try having a nice even light in the room, without too big of contrasts. Kind of like your picture, that lighting looks great.
My old camera reckoned it could film in HD but if we're honest, 2011 HD is very different to now. I got on just fine though and had managed to get over 1000 subscribers before I made the upgrade
What echoraven said. There are plenty of successful YouTube videos that don't have the best visual quality at all, or, in the case of music uploads, don't even any any visuals beyond a still image.
I'll guess I'll stick with improving my content (and being comfortable behind the camera xD) but still save up for the camera so I can upgrade in a few months...
720p is considered "HD" enough for good quality videos. Full HD is a bit mainstream among big YouTubers, but not everyone has a good Internet connection.
