Is this double dipping and should it be allowed?

I clicked on a thumbnail to watch a video by The Young Turks. An non-skip 30 seconds ad appear and the channel's owner is in the ad. He is promoting a website service in the ad which also includes his channel in the ad's theme. The owner was paid to promote a product and he also earned ad sense money because it is a non-skip ad.

I feel like this is double dipping. I have mixed feelings on whether YouTube should allow it. I would be more comfortable if the ad was skippable because I wouldn't be force to watch the ad . He's getting paid in two different ways by the ad from two different sources. On the other hand it's a great way to increase a channel's earnings.

I'm going to stay neutral for now and hear everyone's thoughts on this.

It ads more value to the advertiser when a recognizable person from the channel actually helps promote the advertised product or service.

I feel like that was the fan finder option. It might have been a coincidence that his own ad came over his video.
Yeah, I'm almost certain this was the case. Fan Finder detects what the viewer likes and plays it appropriately, so it's a coincidence.
Although the ad being less than 30 seconds long meaning you can't skip it was kinda a d**k move. xD

It's not his ad. He was paid by the company to promote its product.

I think that's how a certain network works. A buddy of mine was considering some networks before he joined one some time ago and he told me that there is one network that offers some crazy CPM (like 10$+) if you include a specific commercial in your video. I can't remember its name, hopefully someone here knows what I'm talking about.

I have been contacted by organizations who want to pay me to make an ad for them and then they will use that ad as a pre-roll on my channel. This appears to be exactly the situation that the original poster seen happening on TYT. This is not a Fan Finder situation.

My bad. Sorry. I suck at monetization stuff. :P

Oh I think heard of this before, some high-ranking Youtubers get high CPM if the ad particularly suits the channel demographic.
(for example, if the channel's about audio production & stuff, and the ad is about a specific brand of headphones)

If you're gonna have ads on your vids, why not your own? lol I don't really mind tbh, I only let the ads play for about 30secs or to the end if they're <2-3mins. I never really take notice of them. It's just done in an ad format instead of a normal video.

Fan finder ads are skippable from what I'm aware of, so it'd have to be a proper adsense ad. Not to mention the youtuber was advertising a product for another company.

I imagine folks are a lot more likely to stay and watch an ad if the YouTuber they are waiting to watch is actually in the ad before the video.
