Is reddit a good way to promote my channel?

I've had 2 videos make it to the front page of /r/all, via /r/television. The key (other than making exceptional content) is posting at the right time, generally 8am-10am Eastern time. That said, it's incredibly random which videos will be popular, and which ones won't. Reddit is very unpredictable. Also, views from reddit don't translate well into subscribers.
 
I tried using reddit to improve my youtube traffic, I thought I would get like 50 views or something, but in reality iI only got 2. Don't take me for a pessimist, the reddit community is one of the best on the entire Internet, but they have the tendency to be kinda picky. So that's why I came to this forum, I tried reddit first :)
