Is it wrong to be afraid of what my direct environment thinks?

I've Got It
As I'm fairly new to youtube, and no one in my direct environment would probably expect me to do this.

Is it wrong of me to be afraid of exposing myself to them as a YouTuber?

I would love to know all of your experiences with this!

And what would be the best way to put myself out there to them?

Ps. Any tips on improving my channel would be highly appreciated!

I don't want to say right or wrong but to be big you must be fearless. There will be people that hate you. The law of averages just says it's that way. Every famous person in movies music sports etc has people who hate them and you have to not care. So really really don't worry about what your friends or family say. Because if you can't it'll only get harder
 
I wouldn't say it's wrong. When I had my very first channel I was really worried about it but now I don't even care. You stop worrying about what people think of you when you realise how little they actually do. You need to think "I'm uploading this to potentially millions of strangers to see and I am proud of what I am doing. Why do I care about these 2 people near me in the park?"

Oh man, when I started I was just so embarrassed about the whole thing, especially to people that know me. It felt very vulnerable because I was putting myself out there. At the end of the day, though, it's played up way bigger in your head than it is in reality. A year later and it's just this normal thing that I do, everyone around me knows about it and some think it's actually cool and are interested. If you're passionate about it and it makes you happy, it's worth getting over that initial embarrassed feeling when everyone learns about it, because it doesn't take long for that feeling to go away
 
Yeah pretty much what was said above. My girlfriend watched me slave away at making my first upload and thought I looked crazy. I uploaded and people at work and my close friends saw it and yeah it felt weird and embarrassing but I found that as long as you can laugh with them at yourself or whatever their reaction is then it will be fine. Most people thought it was hilarious and wanted to see more (probably because more people don't get to see that side of my personality). Anyway it's something that you will get over pretty quick I'm sure once people find out about it. Like everyone said it just because a kind of regular hobby thing you do and you will probably get some followers out of it.
 
It's totally understandable. What I found is that some people really "get it" and are happy for you, others don't know what to make of it, but for most it's just a non-issue either way.

I still get weirded out whipping the camera out in public and talking to it, but I feel like I'm becoming more and more comfortable everyday with filming in public. I think it's natural to worry about what those around you think, but as someone said above. If you get even 20 people to watch a video and they like it, who cares if the 3 people in a park look at you funny!
 
I've been making videos since 2013 and honestly, I'm still 100% worried about what people will think, and I think that's fine, it almost comes with the territory
Also, it feels more awkward and weird to have a channel with a small amount of subs and others find out about it, since not many people would understand why you are making videos for 'nobody' if that makes sense, which sucks haha
I don't think I'd ever be comfortable watching my videos WITH other people, and I'd never actually send my videos to people I know, maybe that will come with time..!
Only a few of my close friends know about my channel (and only 1 of them actually watches my videos)
 
I would say If you get negative feedback make a positive situation out of it.
Don't be afraid of what people have to say its also good to know why people don't like your videos.
The biggest channels on youtube have many dislikes and rude comments but it doesn't affect them.
