Is it just me, or...

... are there a LOT of YouTube channels that only do video games now? I was in the SocialBlade chat room the other day and everyone there kept asking me to check out their channel. When I did, it was ALL video games. Seriously? Does no one vlog anymore, or do sketch comedy, or just rants? I would even settle for a makeup tutorial or something. Is this the future of YouTube? Minecraft?
It's a fad to say the least. Gaming channels continue to grow due to the ease of making one. However, only very few actually gain success from it. There are many, and I mean MANY who create gaming content that fall flat due to the lack of creativity and personality. I can appreciate a channel that has a mix of everything to maximize audience potential. But those types of channels are far in-between (like ours and Vlograys for example). We have a lot of gamers here on YT and you don't have to be interested in them if it's not in your taste. Just remember that vloggers, filmmakers, and creative artists in general do exist.

To be honest, I never knew much about Youtube as an entertainment medium. That was until I bought Minecraft and that opened my eyes to what was here. Even now I'm still coming to terms with the whole vloging aspect (which I more than likely take part in at some point). Reality is, Gaming channels are acting as a portal bringing people to Youtube, same could be said for the Vlogers.

I do all of those! Including video game let's plays! I get what you're saying. I love video game channels though but I don't get it when one channel only does 1 game. Like all of the uploads are Call of Duty...I can feel my headache setting in already just thinking of a COD only channel.

and then its a 40 minute video, or 4 videos that are 10 minutes each. Who do you think is watching that? Patrick and I watch your stuff, even the gaming stuff. Its not overwhelming, and you have more than just games to offer.

Yeah I'm so with you. I used to make gaming videos and its a dream job. I love making IRL videos now but making gaming videos is incredibly easy from the making point of view and is mainly based on the lives of the people playing rather than the games. The competition in there is too rough though as there are thousands of kids making them.

Thank you! That means a lot. I feel the same way when I watch you guys...hell you 2 are just awesome together. Perfect chemistry.

I like to watch a few gaming videos if there short and pretty cool, but there are too many gaming channels that they all start to blend together and it makes it harder for all of them to get big on youtube, especially if they're just starting. I try to stay away from posting stuff like that for 2 reasons. 1. I'm usually really bad and 2. It would get really monotonous posting just videos of me playing xbox :)

I see a lot of Gaming videos but I mainly do normal vlogs. Thinking of branching to other things as-well just trying to think of what xD

Thanks man. I tried my best to avoid this topic on YTtalk because I know so many gamers are here and I didn't want to rub anyone the wrong way, but DAMN there are way too many gaming channels. No one will ever stand out if you continue to do things the way they are now. Its like, I want to support smaller YouTubers, I really do, but 9 our of 10 people who ask me to check them out is a gaming channel. I don't even play games that much, why do I wanna watch YOU play?

I agree. Making gaming videos is probably very easy compared to what we filmmakers do but again.. YouTube is all about entertainment and I'm sure making gaming videos must be entertaining as well as watching them. I find myself in film making. I'm passionate and always try to get better at it.
