Is it a good idea to join a network if you're a small youtuber?

I have a question to you guys, MissFushi and Harpuia. When did approx you join to your network (month)? And was it helpful to increase your monthly views?

I've never understood the recommendation against it. There is literally no downside to joining a network (as long as you can get out of it with no more than 30 days notice).
