Is HD the be all and end all?

Right, so in short, I've spotted a capture card that works well with my current computer spec. The ony snag, is that it isn't HD, it's 480p at best. There is a HD version of this card, but not only is it about $80 more than the SD one, the spec is about three times what's required for the SD one too. I'd also have to spend extra money upgrading my machine in order to make it work, which I'm not able to do right now.

Now personally, I'm just fine with this. When I watch videos I don't do it for the spec of the person's computer, I do it for entertainment, you know?

Anyway -- how important do you deem HD to be for commentaries? Would you avoid a video? Would it make you hate the video regardless of quality of the content? If you currently watch my videos would you stop, or avoid the 480 vids entirely?

i don't think HD is the be all end all..i upload videos in 480 just to save time it doesn't look terrible! so i'd still watch !
 
Honestly, I'd say it's worth the effort to stick to 1080p right now. Whenever I watch gaming videos, I tend to view them full-screen, and it's much more enjoyable when it's crisp.

Don't forget that plenty of people are watching YouTube on their TVs now, and 480's going to look awful blown up on a large screen size.

But I'm biased, I guess. I'd upload in 4k if I could afford it :-/
 
I never watch videos in 720p so for people like me it wouldnt change anything but there are people who do look for HD videos, I guess in some way it is deemed as more proffesional then non HD videos.
 
well these days HD is important :/ And i literally have no idea why .-. But i guess yu will have to invest is your channel to become a succesfull commentator ;) I mean we all do that ^_^
 
Well, it depends. I default to HD, but if 480 is all that's available it matters if the person encoded it or edited, which also degrades quality. Then it gets to a point of being difficult for me to watch personally. I would only stick around for amazing commentary (like snort-laugh worthy).
 
If you're talking about the First ROXIO game capture .. I WOULDN'T get it.. the audio mess's up a lot! it lets you do HD playthrough and records at 480p.. the video quality isn't that bad.. but when the audio messes up it's very annoying and horrible!
