Is a Macbook worth it?

I currently have a Dell Windows 8 laptop. I like it but I want to get a new laptop before the end of the summer. The main reason I want a new laptop is because I want something smaller and portable, I was thinking 13" or so. My current laptop is 15.6" and two years old and not super thin. I have a computer monitor, wireless, keyboard and mouse so for editing and stuff I can plug it in and get a big screen.
Anyways, the point is I am a cheap person so I have a lot of money and I wanted to buy something that could last and handle video editing. The windows laptops I was looking at were ~$800 so I was just wondering if it worth be worth to spend a little more to buy a macbook. Any macbook owners (specially the 11" and 13" ones) out there I would like to know your experience. Can they handle video editing? Do you get viruses? How old is your macbook? How long do you expect to keep it? And finally is it worth the $1000+ pricetag?
I don't plan on buying this laptop until like July or August so I still have time, I just wanted some opinions. Anything is welcome, even if I don't agree it.[DOUBLEPOST=1429913613,1429913518][/DOUBLEPOST]And also, while I have never owned a mac, I have used imacs at school in both high school and college.

At first I didn't really like getting one but I got one anyway cuz it was a good deal. And now, after using it for so many things, I can tell you it's worth that 1k.

Who doesn't like MacBooks it's because they can't afford it.
Tbh, that is every apple fan's best and sometimes only argument. They never even mention the specs.[DOUBLEPOST=1430505386,1430505036][/DOUBLEPOST]To put it into perspective, no one on this thread that "loves mac so much" and thinks it's the "best" has mentioned processing power, ram, GB of storage, any tangible, quantitative information. They've just been saying things like "It's so beautiful", "I like the features" or "I have one and it's so much better than PC." How is it better than PC, though? Your opinions are immeasurable.

Everything is set up and ready to go with a Mac. I think it's a whole lot harder to "mess your computer up" in Apple iOS, than Windows, which might be part of the reason why so many people love apple products so much. Macs even auto-default hide the Library directory, which would kind of be like hiding your C: drive in Windows... I find it annoying, but others might like it better that way. ^^

Ironically it's the same reply PC elitists come up with when comparing consoles to PC xD It's like spending an unnecessary amount of money on something makes them smarter or better. If I spend an unnecessary amount of money on something you know what I call it? An impulse buy.

I switched to Apple late 2012 and will never go back.

The system is just more stable and doesn't get screwed up after a few weeks. Takes like 3-4 weeks to get used to the OS but after that it's a joy.

And the bigegst YES you can get is resale value, yeah, you might be thinking why selling, but an Apple laptop or iMac you can sell after 3-5 years and still get money for it.

Who will buy a used 6 -12 months old Dell, Toshiba or else?

I upgraded to a macbook pro recently
I did it because for the price of a new faster windows laptop and the price of premier pro
It just seemed a lot easier to go with a mac with not that big a price difference[DOUBLEPOST=1430821168,1430820500][/DOUBLEPOST]I upgraded to a macbook pro recently

Highly agree with you! Once you go mac, you never go back. Haha

Simple answer: No.

Long answer:
I have owned both a Mac and a PC, not only do macs cost more but I find they do not have a very good layout with regards to file organization. You can spend $2000 on a mac and get a decent computer. You can spend $2000 on a PC and get a KICK a** computer. Only thing you cannot get on PC is final Cut pro, but there is still other programs like Avid, Adobe CC, or even moviemaker if you are low on funds :P

i bought a macbook pro when the "refresh" happened. returned it within 2 weeks. i tried to like it but for the money its not worth it to me. no ability to upgrade memory or hard drive unless i spend more money initially to get that stuff. and even then, the upgrades for like memory on the apple store is $200 for 8gb more. serious rip off right there.

True enough.
When I purchased my mac mini in 2012 I ordered Viking memory for it at about 25% of the apple store price and it's still in my mini today. The nice thing about upgrading mac hardware is it's no longer propriety. Pretty much any hard drive or RAM that meets specs works.
That mac mini replaced a G4 Tower that I had for 10 years.
That being said; if your primary purpose is creative then mac is the way to go. I do my video editing and create music on my mac.
For me the biggest negative about buying a mac is the first thing you need to do is buy more memory. When you buy a PC you buy virus protection, when you buy a mac you buy memory.
The advantage of mac is it's eco system. Apple controls all hardware so it can code the OS for a far more narrow range of hardware variations than Microsoft. Give your mac enough memory and it will hum happily along, trouble free.

I personally own a macbook pro 15 inch and I am really happy with it. Programs load fast, the rendering doesn't really take long and sfx programs like after effects run quite smoothly. The only downside is of course the price. I got it for my education but you should only do it if you really want to or if it benefits you in your school or field of work! Hope that helped
