Is a intro necessary?

Intros and outros arent necessary but can be good ways of branding your videos. If you do decide to make one keep it under 10 seconds, under 5 seconds if you can so it is as short as possible and try having it after around 10-15 seconds of the video playing so you can grab the viewers attention right from them hitting play and then have the intro play briefly. I will have a two second intro when I start my personal channel.

just keep it super short nothing too long. I learned that people get annoyed by long intros no matter how well pieced together they are.

I always start

"Hey guys hows its goin, PepperBeef2Spicy here, bringing you some *X*" -> video

and then outro with "Thank you guys for watching, and i'll see you guys later"

sometimes i'll leave with an additional "have a good day" or what I will be doing the next video (if its a series). Short, sweet and to the point, this is one of those things where IMO thats the only way to go.

Is it necessary?

technically no, but I think its only beneficial.

I think he's talking more about intro to the video, such as a intro to a tv show showing who plays what character etc[DOUBLEPOST=1386542976,1386542915][/DOUBLEPOST]

Agreed fully. Have a nice short little intro. Ones that drag on tend to make me sway away from watching.

personally, No. I have never truly seen the logic of an intro unless it is an online web show needing to name or shame people!

To put into perspective no, pewdiepie usually doesnt have an intro and look where he is, but for a small channel a professional intro really helps grab the viewers attention.

Definitely not necessary, but many prefer them as a way to brand their stuff, and make it personalized. Some of the biggest YouTubers don't have intro's at all, simply because they can brand their videos using their voice alone, getting right to the good stuff. Not many can do this, but those who can tend to get far.

An intro that is used on every video isn't that necessary :p I think having intros based on a "lets play" series definitely help people to remember your videos of that series. That said, a decent thumbnail can work just as well :)

I will s

I was thinking about that and I also have something to say about that.

The general rule is the same, keep it short, and its not neccessary but it does give a slight "wow" factor to viewers. However, Idk if the OP is going to do Let's Plays, but I find that Intros/outros for Let's Plays are annoying because I generally watch LPs in a row via playlists; sometimes as background sound. It gets annoying when you hear the same intro/outro repeat itself while the playlist goes on but that's just my personal take on it. An intro would be cool on maybe the first video of the LP but I don't like it on the rest.

Here's also a question, what do you guys think about Outros which are extended for the sake of having links to other videos, you know the fancy ones with the whole videos inside of a video thing. I find those to be pretty cool, but like with my example of LPs I can find them annoying for an LP, individual videos though? they're graet.

It's all about branding...personally I find intro's annoying about 60% of the time, hell my intro was purposely made to be annoying to grab people attention. It's not needed plenty of big youtubers do it introless, ALTHOUGH with that being said they also started when youtube wasn't such a competitive place.

I don't like intros, I just want to watch the video when I click on one. :p
But outro's are fine, since then you have already watched the video.

I think intros are important because it gives your viewers something to look forward to. I mean, think about your favorite TV show... Wouldn't you feel a little lost or shorted if the intro was taken out? I would!
