I get copyright notices when some people don't

Why is it that whenever someone here asks if they can monetize gaming videos, everyone says you need to join a network to get supposed 'licenses' to upload videos for games. I can say with almost 100% certainty that isn't true. But then whenever music is brought up (ie. singing covers) that actually DOES require proper licensing to upload and monetize, people just flat out say you're not allowed? Especially when there are real, legal ways to license cover songs on the internet that you can do yourself. There are a ton of channels with people singing cover songs. They can monetize them, and even sell their songs on iTunes because they're properly licensed. It's usually through a third party company that does it for the artist. It's not like it's cost prohibitive either, because the original artist gets a cut of the money and that's about it.

Do a search on mechanical and synchronization licenses. Full disclosure: I don't have any personal experience doing this, so I can't give you any specifics. If you're serious about singing covers, it's worth looking into.

i heard it's much easier to sell cover songs in itunes because there are companies you can go to get the proper license but it's different in youtube, but there's Fullscreen that allows to monetize cover songs legally if you join them. Most cover artist on youtube only monetize their original songs.

It's because concerts and stuff also have a lot of background sound. The way it works is someone who owns the copyright to the track will suggest that it matches third-party content and youtube will check the levels of audio etc so if its a match then the copyright notice will come up so if you're recording with a beat/song in the background it will be a very close if not exact match but at concerts theres a big crowd so audio wise they will be very different.

Though sometimes it's still loud enough to register and have Youtube mute the video. I've seen it happen before to several friends of mine on their channels.
