That's one reason I never openly did this. If I were to ever promote someone it would be because I sincerely want to help them out, I am not asked. Although the whole submission to BE in your videos sounds like a good idea.
 
I'm sorry to say that, yes they are using you. It's unfortunate but when people see things like "Shoutout giveaway" they immediately start thinking about an opportunity to get some exposure. I'm not saying everybody is like that but most people are. It's sad but true. I think if you want to do a shoutout giveaway, you should do it randomly and only for people you like and feel deserve it.
 
The format you're using simply doesn't work in the long run. I've seen a ton of channels do what you do and say they're doing it to give back to the community. But in reality, you're trying to artificially drive traffic to your channel by requiring them to be active. So while they're active, you're using each other and you're OK with it. They're obviously didn't sub to your channel and watch your videos because they want to view their stuff-they're only doing it because they get something in return-once they have that, there's no incentive to stay active. If you end up doing the shout out videos too often, they become meaningless to your audience-which doesn't benefit your channel or the channel you are shouting out. Shout outs shouldn't be used to solicit views/subs. If you truly like another channel or someone has done a favor for you, then use a shout out as a reward and expect nothing in return. You will be surprised at the good mojo that comes your way when you use a shout out the properly.
 
the majority of people care only about themselfsand might do something just because the have something to ''gain''.but keep doing what you do man,don't stop because of them,by ''giving'' you receive much more,you ''gain'' more by giving trust me,and not only on a youtube channel :).
Ps : Do what YOU like to do for the pleasure of doing it,not for subs,numbers,likes and blablabla please subscribe blaablalbla...well i hope you get the point xD
 
Thanks for all the feedback. I think I'm just going to do monthly shoutouts now from people who I think truly deserve it and channels I like. No more advertising that I do shoutouts. :)

I think its alot like #FF on twitter. I give a funny shout out to 3 people a week whether they follow me or not and hope for the best.

For you my man, just keep doing what you're doing if you enjoy doing it. Thats the reward and everything else is gravy. its also karma too right? Positive actions will lead to positive emotions.

Hmmm I didnt really say anything funny in this.......The only good thing about sleeping alone is that if and when I choose to build a pillow fort, I don't have to explain it.
