I Don't Get It.

I believe he's asking, correct me if I'm wrong, that people that you've spoken with told you that when you join a network you don't have to manually monetize your videos (like the network automatically does it for you). And if that's the case, how is the income generated?

Idk if that's what you mean, but I've never joined with a network other than YouTube and I'm not 100% sure how monetization works within networks, I would assume you have to go through the same process. But, I'm sure someone else knows more

Correct. In this case, the Network would not receive any money.
At the moment, I am with Fullscreen. I can't disable ads on videos that are already uploaded. I would have to email my partner manager and ask them to disable ads. On ads that I currently upload, I can disable ads right when I upload.

Oh, I see. And do you know if this is the same for the other networks? Or, at least for the common ones (RPM, Machinima, etc)?

Thank you for your reply.

I'm not worried tbh, I was just wondering why networks allow they partners to remove the monetization of their videos. I just don't see the sense of it.
Well sometimes you don't want to monetize the video because of the content. For example if you made a video for a group of people, or a client, you may not want ads to appear on the video.

It's just an option. Not everyone is going to want ads on every single video.

Oh, ok, I think you nailed it lol.

Thanks to everyone :)

pretty sure he's saying "what is the network's motivation to keep you if you're not monetizing" And if you monetize NO videos, then probably zero, and you'd probably be a very expendable partner. I monetize alot of videos, but some I can't because of copyright. I don't think my network would let me go over that, because they reviewed my content before signing me and thought I had a shot at really being big some day. Any network that partners you under that premise while you're small, is having faith you could go big some day, and they want to be the ones you generate revenue for when/if that happens. So that is the motivation. However if you DID go big and start getting tons of views, and refused to monetize, they'd probably let you go.

BroadbandTV forces changes to your ad settings that enable preroll ads if you have them disabled (I intentionally did only popup style ads and my settings kept getting changed. Glad I'm not with them anymore). I could be wrong, but I think it is within the power of the network to force claiming as well. Potential PR nightmare, but the possibility exists.
