How picky are you with your videos?

Gods of Odds

Loving YTtalk
How picky are all of you with your videos or in other words how perfect do you try to make them? I always worry about every single little noise that isn't meant to be there even if it is the tiniest noise but I always worry but people will stop watching because of it. I always feel like it must be absolutely perfect with not even one little noise that isn't meant to be there or people will simply not watch. Am I actually right or am I just trying to be too good and am being way too picky again? Do people really care if there is a little noise at one or two points in the video that aren't meant to be there? Sometimes it can just be a tiny click or something but I still worry about it.

As long as your content is good, that is more important the smaller stuff. People will overlook the little stuff if they like your video. Now having a clean video is a plus too, but more often than not people won't be upset if their are small noises.

it's youtube man. you don't have to be perfect! I stopped caring too much about quality unless its really obvious. but it really depends on your goals. Is it for your portfolio or something?

I try to keep a minimal standard for quality (so no excessive background noise and decent audio quality, decent quality footage, a decent script quality etcetera), in the past I scrapped videos because they didn't meet the standards. Lately I lowered my standards, another reason I decided to take a break from uploading.

I try to be as perfect as I can. But no ones perfect and I'm the first to admit that. But that said, YouTube is not live tv where mistakes can't be done over and those mistakes can be seen each time it's played if you leave them in

I would advise to be super picky. Sure, you can get away with a lot more on YouTube, but that doesnt mean you shouldn't hold yourself to a higher standard.
Being more stingent in quality is how I took my main channel from obscurity to visibility. Delivery quality and aesthetically pleasing content is a huge part of this game.

My video's are intended to be rough, badly edited, unscripted, bumping into the camera, coughing, saying umm at the start of every sentence.
setting standards low at the start makes it easy to improve as you go, my first 10 video's I was so stoned that a 10 minute video would go for 40 minutes, so now, 120 video's later, people compliment my improvement.

in other words, who gives a toss? life's too short for perfection.

I try to make them as perfect as possible, since my channel relies on information. If your an entertainer I don't think it is necessary to care about every little bit of imperfection in your video. Its not like it is pre-written or anything. Entertainers have to do every thing on the spot, yes there is preparation ahead of time, but they don't memorize anything word for word, so I don't blame them for a little mess up here and there. As for channels that are trying to educate people or give a review or tutorial, I feel for these cases you have to be as perfect as possible :)
